interesting, I didn't know that any first gen cars used an internally regulated alternator!?
I thought that started with the "1970+" model year!

My non-ram air 69 400 firebird still had it's original 832 when I got it. These internally regulated alternators were not very reliable when they first came out so many were swapped out early on making them rare to find today.

I made the comment that the 832 was on all 400 cars and North showed pictures of a 400 car built with the external regulated alternator. There is also another number open face alternator for A/C cars.

Mine has the original. I think I read somewhere early cars had the external regulator. As per John Pirkle the open faced were problematic and when they tried to repair them the front cases often broke .

That is correct Tom. The rear housings for 1969 and 1970 400 Firebirds/T/A’s are extremely rare and are shared with the Corvettes in each respective year. That contributes to the high value.

Yes Tom. An internally regualted open faced 69 GP alternator would have the same back half as the 69 FB/T/A and Corvette.

I sent it out today for a clean up and rebuild if needed. He told me he hasn't seen one in years and it's a 1 yr unit.
I will take pics and post when it's back.

My rear housing is cracked/damaged at the bolt boss;
I have not run across another loose rear 70 housing...
But I have found a no numbers open face front housing for a reasonable price...

Keep in mind that the 1969 rear housing and the 1970 rear housings are different from each other. The 1970 has an additional bolt boss on the rear side.

See I didn't know that;
I have been following the posts in this thread, and had apparently made the wrong assumption after this prior post of yours;

The key words being "in each respective year".
Both years are extremely difficult to find today.
