Default Starter motor rear brace?

I’m rebuilding the starter for my Judge.

Anyway years ago I acquired this rear starter brace, but I don’t remember what kind of Pontiac I got it from as I’ve had many. I’m certain it didn’t come on a 1970 GTO, but does anybody know what years and models used them?

You can see the brace just below the drive end of my armature. One end mounted to a short stud that stuck out the side of the starter body near the back, and the other end I forget. Maybe the motor mount?

The host lists 1966-1969 for the early brace, from memory though I believe it actually starts being used in 1964 when Pontiac starters were switched from the bellhousing mounting to the block. I believe the earlier one bolts to the motor mount bolt, the later one may also mount to the motor mount, but I can't remember for sure, and couldn't find a picture of the later one.

1970-1977 for the later brace.

The later brace retails for $18.00 from Ames. It's excellent idea to use the brace to prevent the block mounting bolt holes from cracking. It does occasionally happen, and could be serious enough to ruin the mounting holes in the cast iron block, pretty much rendering the block useless.

I'm well aware of some people that have gotten away without any block damage not using the brace, however there are pics posted on the net with the outer starter bolt boss cracked and broken off of the block.
