Default Driveshaft removal

How do I remove the driveshaft on a '67 4-speed car? I would like to clean it up.

Also, what is the correct paint? Aluminum? Spray Gray? Detail Gray?

At the rear of the driveshaft remove the two U-bolts which attach it to the pinion yolk. Make sure the caps stay on the U-joint and don't fall off. Then just push the driveshaft a little forward into the tranny and the rear should drop out. Then just pull the driveshaft straight back out of the tranny.

The driveshaft was left bare steel from the factory. If I recall I used Detail Gray on my past one which most closely resembles the steel. But my memory may be a little hazy.

Just a little FYI:

You should also mark the the flange and cap so you can re-assemble the way it came apart. Sometimes if you don't you can cause a "new vibration".

Also if you jack the car up under the rearend it will help with fluid coming out of output shaft area on trans. If you don't have a set of output shaft plugs or a old yolk to use.

Good luck

Default Stripes

If you want it to be factory correct I believe the driveshaft for each model had 2 colored stripes painted on them. It' in the service manual but I'm not home to look at mine now but will post later if you want the info.

Thanks. I have researched the correct colors and will duplicate them.

"mind if i ask: who's gonna see it?"

just knowing it's there seems to dampen vibrations and gives a comfort...
