'69 GP Exhaust
I have a '69 GP SJ w/428 and 4spd. I just had the engine rebuilt w/ HO cam and a few other goodies. I bought a set of HO exhaust manifolds, However even with a mini high torque starter their wasn't enough space to install the right side manifold. Has anyone else had this problem? Were you able to install the HO manifolds?
It seems I'm going to have to go with a set of headers. Can someone recommend a brand. Also, how much will they cost? Your imput will be greatly appreciated. |

Perhaps the mini-starter has the solenoid clocked in the wrong postion to clear the manifold. Many users of the mini-starters have had to change the soleniod location to match their application, you may need to do the same.
I can't see why a stock starter can't be used, they did fit this application from the factory. A stock starter should easily handle turning over your 428.

Long Branch Manifold Fun
Make sure you are using the proper oil filter adaptor.

I had no problem with my 69GP and 69FB with 2-1/4" long branch manifolds and stock starter. If I remember correctly the manifold was in place but not bolted to the head then slip in the starter. Helps to have more than 2 hands.
I think headers will be much more of a PITA. |
