Bought a 69' Grand Prix at an Auction in Edmonton AB. It had a write up on the the window saying how it was only 1 of 200 or so J models that had the 428HO. Not sure if this true or not because I don't know these cars or this engine. I have seen on this forum that the engine code for a 428HO was XG, where do you find this code? Thanks

should be on the front of the engine, rh side, just below the head / deck seam.
the vin should be vertical along the timing cover on the same side. mike

Here's my 69 GP 428 heads. The 390hp heads should be # 16 or # 62. The 390hp block codes were XG and YK

I'm not sure where the previous owner came up with his numbers.
I have a copy of research generated by Fred Simmonds through PHS. It indicates there were 986 428HO automatic trans GPs of which 706 had C60 option (a/c). If so, that would mean there were 986 total, of which 280 were non-a/c cars. I would think not having a/c would hurt the value of a GP, but that's just my opinion. Mike |
