Default trunk lock mech, '66 bonn

Dear PY,

I would like to know if GMT25 will work in my 1966 Bonneville conv. I am concerned that the lock shaft is in a completely different spot on GMT25 verses my original part.

I will try to attach a picture. My original part is on the right.

With the stock key/cylinder/shaft I can NOT open the trunk with GMT25. I can open the trunk if I use a screw driver in place of the key/cylinder/shaft.

Maybe a different shaft would work. Advice?

Hi Ed. I'm going to say no... the big car decklid mechanism is different. I don't think the shaft will help either. Do you need another latch or are you looking for the lock assy?

If the GMT25 sent to you will mount to your trunk, then I think the shaft may still work even though it is in a different mounting position. You may need a longer shaft but there is a lot of play available between the lock and the latch. The shaft can be at a fairly sharp angle to the lock and still work. I guess it's something you will just need to try unless you are local...... then just bring the car over and we'll have a look.

I have ordered some later model shafts. It would appear that the stock big car just won't turn enough at such a sharp upward angle. If I bias the lock down toward the lock it works, but then the mech. interferes with the lid closing. For now I'll leave the key lock un-installed.

So the sharp angle is being caused by the new latch mechanism? What if you were to bend the shaft? Reason I ask is because we have a bunch of various shaped and length shafts here.
