Default 6500 rpm hood tach question

this sure looks real ! ?

any input y' all ??

hopefully its coming with some other nos Pontiac parts this week....

need a little input/azzkickin to pull the trigger $$$

looks like 67 sprint ..... tall tach 1 light ....

the label sure looks oem I know the detail item that makes it obvious ..

kinda looked on the net but couldnt find any info on this redline

or part number ......... sorry about the krappy pics

66 & 67 OHC 6 cyl cars did have a 6,500 RPM red-line limit, in '68 and '69 for all 6 cyl sprint engine cars this was downgraded to 5,500 RPM.

All V8 Pontiac hood tachs had a 5,100 RPM red-line.

Looks right even down to the clouding/fogged Face plate/lens.
Inherent problem with oe tachs.

Be sure to test it once you have it,
Unlike the over priced one being offered and they haven't even tested it??

Were they different from the A body to F body? If not, then that one would be for one engine and for one year only. It seems like a nice piece. Good luck with it. I guess that you could buy the hood tach harness from M&H or Lectric.

The 6500 red line would make it a 67, they are the same part between F and A bodies.

The only other thing I can add is that yeas most Pontiac V8 Tach's are 5100 red line, but Ram Air IV cars got a 5500 Red line Hood Tach. I once scored a good Swap meet find when I thought I was buying a 68-69 Sprint Hood Tack and it actually was a 69-70 Ram Air IV Tach. I could not use it, but I did douple my $$$ on it.

The A body and F body 67 Hood Tachs are different Part Numbers. The F body Hood tach face is black with green division lines and numbers where the A body tach face is blue with white division lines and numbers. So the tach in the pic is A body. The metal ring behind the glass is the same color as the face plate. The Hood tach face color always matched the interior gauge colors. The 6500 red line makes it 6 cylinder. Any 6 cylinder tach can be refaced with 5100 red line to make it 8 cylinder and calibration of the circuit board to 8 Cylinder. The P/N I have for this tach in a 1977 AC tachometer repair service bulletin is 6468436, but i would not take that as gospel and say the decal is not original. It is correct in that is does not have a line below the DO NOT EXCEED 180 DEG IN PAINTING and above the ink stamped P/N. The decals on 68 and up Hood Tach's did have a line between this nomenclature and the P/N.

That looks like a repro tach face to me. I have an NOS one in the box and mine is crisper. Maybe I'm wrong but it just doesn't look right.

From what I can see the tach looks original due to the fine indentation on the lip of the front bezel, But it really is a bad pic to try to judge anything from.
