I am looking at a 69 Judge with good original documentation. However, according to most VIN decorders the first number after the build plant(8th from the left), should be either 1, 3, 6, or 7. Mine is a 3 ?? I have hard copy of the original owners title with this vin # on it.

The full VIN is 242379P323271

Any insight ???

Who told you about the 8th number being for a Judge...my understanding that the last numbers after the letter code are simply the sequential number of all cars coming out of that particular plant...the best way to confirm is to pay the 35 bucks to Pontiac Historical services, and they will verify the validity of the Judge option.

The 8TH digit denotes a 6 or 8 cylinder car and sequentially increases until the last car is produced. Six cylinders start with 600001 and go up to the last car is produced. The 8 cylinders start with 100001 and go up. The 8 th digit for a Judge could be a 1, 2, 3, 4, or 5. Highest I have seen is a 3xxxxx number. Only other documentation can tell you if it is a real Judge. The car your looking at was built in the Pontiac plant mid year in 69. The 24237 means it is a GTO hardtop, 9 the year, and P the Pontiac plant. Jim

I should have clarified myself more....

According to VIN Decoder @ultimategto.com.... the 8th digit is as follows:

1= V8 less than 100,000 units
2= V8 more than 100,000 units
6= V6 less than 100,000 units
7= V6 more than 100,000 units

then the 9th through 13th digits are the sequential build

my 8th digit is a "3". I have the PHS build sheet, the POP, and original title. This vin is correct on all documents, and came with the $337.02 Judge option.

Strange !!!
