From what Ive seen, 455s can be a little hard on piston skirts (1.57 : 1 rod/stroke ratio ) although 455s I have come across seem to have very straight bores even with 100,000 + miles.
Was the engine rebuilt at any time ? Through the years Ive seen some pretty tight pistons shoved in the cylinders - some machinists might check the top for fit, but they dont shove the piston down 3.5" or even 4.0 " to check the fit. As far as the lobes go - might be the original cam, just old/worn.
Ive rebuilt/machined 4/6 and V8s through the years - and it always seems to me any cast iron American V8 (and old inliner sixes) will hide its illnesses very well; they will continue running for years, even in very poor health.

acid dipped- its expensive but no sand or dust or prep work once done, all you have to do is paint- definately less trouble in the end
