Default Junkyard car what is it

My local junkyard opened finally, had to go so took the day off of work Friday. There are less people on Fridays. I wore a mask the entire time, almost passed out from temps hitting low 80’s. I imagine this is a kit car but what is it? What parts would be worth getting if I go back. I found a crescent wrench, nothing like finding free tools.

Old kit car replica of a Bugatti. They were built on VW chassis.

They were also powered by a motorcycle engine, weren't they?

I could see the rear was fiberglass and the front was metal. There were some other cool cars like a 69 Galaxie 390, Merc Park Lane like 64 and a 60’s D100

I believe there was also a Bugatti-style kit car that used a Pinto engine.

An old neighbor had a similar kit car of a Mercedes which has a Mustang II drive train. I used to work on that turd all the time. It was a hunk of crap, I remember every wire in the car was either red or black. It was plagued with electrical issues as the harness ran between the fender and the tire for headlamps and tail lamps.

Mustang II and Pinto (later years) shared the 2300 cc 4 cyl. Probably what you dealt with.

Why would you wear a mask at a junkyard?

He was at a junkyard, probably worried about getting a Corolla virus!

Umm... can I assume the Toyota Corona was immune to the virus?

That car would NEVER make the junkyard here in Australia. Someone would want it, maybe fix it or use it to recreate another kit car.

Seems a terrible waste to me

You almost passed out from temps hitting the low 80's cracked me up. That is a nice winter day here if the humidity is low.

Bugatti kit cars weren't a bad idea, but in reality the execution was pretty poor on most of them. Remember that in the US we don't have the inspection and regulation you guys have, so the build quality on a lot of these things coming out of a shed in someone's back yard was pretty sketchy. It's difficult to say based on a single photo, but chances are it was in the junkyard because it belonged there.

I wore a mask because the JBS meat processing plant is in close proximity to junkyard and Greeley has a high number of Covid cases. Also add to that the smell of all the feed lots from the cows, some mouse poop cars and a mask does not seem all that bad. Plus my dad would tell me when I was a kid that Greeley smelled so bad because the meat plant burns the cow blood. I am with you Heybuck that would make a cool project car. That is a good start to a project right there and with all the stuff out there aftermarket. Like I said earlier there was a nice 69 Galaxie 390 straight as a arrow with little to no rust. I am amazed at the cars that wind up in Greeley, there are a lot of farms still around in Greeley but with all the people moving to CO lately. They just want the land to build more houses they dont really care what is in the fields.
I hear you on mask in low 80's here in CO, wasn't as bad as I made it sound. I remember the days in NY temperature was high 80's and humidity was 100%. All that in BDU's in the hills of NY. I do not miss humidity at all, give me a dry climate anytime.
