Front Tires
I have stock Rally 1 wheels on the front of my 67 GTO. Don't remember if these are 14x5.5 or 14x6? I currently have BFG Radial T/A's in a 235/70 R14, which they don't make anymore. These tires just barely rub when I turned the wheel full left or right. Not a big deal, I just didn't turn it all the way to the lock. I am trying to decide between 225/70 R14 or 235/60 R14. I don't want the new tires to rub any more than what these do. I think the Rally 1's might be too narrow for the 235/60 tires. The 235/60 have the same tread width as my current tires and a shorter sidewall which would change the stance and might look a little odd. The 225/70 would be closest to the stance that I have now but have a narrower tread width that might look out of place because the 275/60's that I have in back already dwarf the appearance of the front tires I have now. Any comments and opinions would be appreciated.

I don't know about the tire sizes, but my rally one's are stamped 14x6 on the inside. Only remember that because I had to argue with the guy at the tire store that they were 14" rims and not 15". I had to point out the stamping to get him to stop arguing with me.

My '66 with stock rally I wheels has BFG Radial TA in the 215/70-R14 size and they don't rub, even with my front springs sagging a bit lower than original. Unfortunately, I have my fenders off right now, so I can't measure clearance.

I printed out a spec sheet for BFG Radial T/A's. They show the following tire sizes on a minimum of a 14" x 6" rim: 215/60, 225/60, 225/70. They show needing a 6.5" rim for 235/60 but I would take the chance that this would sill be OK on a 6" rim. They show 195/60 and 215/70 as the largest tires on a 5.5" rim.
I have 275/60 R15 tires on the rear using 15x7 Rally 1 repros. They just barely fit but they don't rub. The left front tire rubs on the inside (against the frame) when turning all the way to the left. The right front tire rubs on the inside when turning all the way to the right. |

I have the D/B redline 225/70 on my stock rally 1's 14-6...no rub problem, but I've never tried any larger size. I have a set of 15" Weld wheels with a set of BFG T/A and tried a set of 225/65 and they just barely caught the front trim....so I went with the 225/60 and they have about 1/2 inch clearance by the trim....stacked in the garage

I went with the 225/70 R14 tires. They look short as compared to the 235/70's that were there all these years. I am glad I did not go with the 235/60 because they would have looked way to short.
