Unfortunately, I no longer own my '73. All that is left is my Can Am, and my Lemans Enforcer, which both have shakers. If I get an extra $500 to invest a system for a car I do not own, I *would* be interested. I guess I should be shopping for another '73 GTO.

Yup! Either a 73 GTO or a 73-75 G-A with a NACA hood, Rick.

The NACA hood was dropped as an option on the G-A and LeMans GT after '74, wasn't it?

I have a set of NOS gold '73 GT stripes that I picked up at Carlisle cheap, but they aren't worthy of putting on a car. They haven't shrunk, just discolored in a few spots from improper storage. Would make good templates for reproductions. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Another thing about that article, Rocky. He spoke of some 455-HO 4-speed (M22) "A" bodies that were built in '73. Could he have meant '72? I know of NO 455 4-speed "A" bodies built in '73, let alone any with a M22 tranny.

All this "A" body talk has got me wanting to mothball the T/A and start working on my own '73 (LOL). Nahhhhhhhhhhh. Not after all the work I did in the last 10 months.

I think they were available through 75'. There are two different versions. One with cowl vents and one without.

NASA? NACA? Sure, either one is o.k. by me.

I've got both types of NACA hoods, can't decide which one is "correct" for my '73. I'm thinking it's the vented one, as the stock hood on my '73 was vented.

I'm reasonably sure that the 73' and 74' had the cowl vents. 75' did not.

The NACA hood was optional through 1975. The vented hoods were used in 1973, and some 1974 cars. The service replacement hood, and some 1974 and all 1975 hoods were not vented. The Muncie 4 speed M-20 was used in 1973, and through mid 1974(March31st?),then the Borg Warner Super T-10 was used. That would be neat if a 455 HO '73 was made, but I believe that to be a misprint. Rick is correct. My 74 was built in June with a plain hood with cowl vents. As far as I know the non-vented hoods were 75 only and service replacements. It's possible some late '74s got the non-vented hood, but I haven't seen any.

There are about 5 interested people at the A-body site, some of whom want 2 systems.

Tell them I'll talk to Phil about it in the coming weeks before Christmas. At the very latest I'll see him on Dec. 20 (he's treating us part time employees at his gun shop to dinner).

This is going to take months to plan, and probably more months to produce something, so don't everybody get all excited. If we're lucky, maybe this can come to fruition with a finished product by early 2004?

How much does Phil want for his car if he decides to sell it?

I don't know. All I do know is I have first refusal on it, so when he goes to sell it, he'll come to me first. I just hope he doesn't expect alot of money for it. I think he may have visions that it's worth $20K (or more) since some idiot offered him $25K for it not long after he first bought (said idiot saw the car at Maple Grove in '96). I'm willing to pay more than what he paid for it, but I can't stand still for $20K, it's a nice car, but not $20K nice. For that kind of money I'll go buy a frame-off restored GTO.

It's rumored that one did exist, but it was an engineering mule and never made it out the door to a consumer. Whatever happened to it is anyone's guess.

Does it still exist? (I know, you probably can't say, and if you told me, you'd have to kill me)

Sure he can, Rick. By now, who cares? Must have made it out of there in the same manner (or similar manner) that Tom Goad's G-A wagon made it out. Someone working at GM wanted it.

This must be a record for the longest running thread in the 73-77 A-body column (LOL).

my 74 has the non vented naca hood on it.i'm not sure of the build date on the car but i can check if you're interested.

when you get a price on the r/a system let me know as i don't check this section as often as i should.

the gto's the project for this year, the g/p or g/am is on the list next.

mike
