It'll be posted here, but don't worry, it will be months before I'll be able to know if it can be done for around $500 per kit (that's the target price).

I'd expect he can get $12-13K for :
$6000-$9000 nice '73 4-speed Grand Am
$3000-$4000 non-original 455SD engine
$1000+ Functional Ram Air system
Hope you can get the car. I'd hate to see it go to a non-Pontiac person and disappear. I could only afford it if I traded my car.
For $20K I'd get a restored first gen 400 'bird convertible.

Agree with you Horst. I am contemplating whether to sell the Can Am off for a 17k mile totally original down to the tires 1973 Road Runner 400 4 speed/pistol grip. The Road Runner needs paint. The Can Am is a excellent driver only needing undercarriage detail and minor paint work to the drivers front door. This: OR THIS Decisions, decisions..

Ahhhhh, 1973 Road Runner. A friend of mine in high school (I was a junior when he was a senior) had a '73 RR. 318 4-brl with auto and a "slapstick" shifter. Had alot of fun cruising in that car. He and his father built a temporary "spray booth" out in the driveway out of 2x4 and plastic/vinyl tarps, and they painted it right out in the driveway (it was red with the black "starsky and hutch" style stripe).

Unless Phil wants an astronomical figure for the car, it will be in my garage, even if I have to sell my current 73.

Unfortunately for 1973, the RR came standard with the 318, with the 340, 400, and 440/auto only optional. I prefer the looks of the 1971-72 Plymouth B bodies, but this '73 is extremely rare and LOW miles.

How's the demand for the 73 Road Runners? That will determine its value. I think the Can Am is nicer looking.
The Mopar 400 is a good engine, 4.342" bore and 3.375" stroke. I'll bet a '73 440 Road Runner is pretty rare. My dad and brother are Mopar nuts and my neighbor is creating a '70 Hemi Cuda out of a 318 car.

I believe, in 1973, when the 440/727 was installed in the Road Runner, it magically became a Road Runner GTX. I do think the Can Am is nicer looking too, but I really want a 4 speed car with a big block. The Road Runner is a few blocks away, and I have noticed it for many years. Original owner still has it after all these years. If the Road Runner in question was a '71 or '72, I would have sold the Can Am long ago.

We were doing a good job of keeping this thread going, I didn't want to see it stop, so I thought I would post a reply.

I like that RA set up photo. Cool stuff, too bad the feds had to get in the way.

Here about the horse that went into the bar?

Bartender asked, "why the long face?"

I spoke with Phil, he's game, so long as the parts never leave my control. Will be making some contacts after the holidays to try and get the ball rolling.

Yup! That's Phil's car. I forget the name of the fellow that took those pictures for Jack, but he was the one that sent them to me, along with Jack's number. I wanted to buy the car for myself, but could only come up with $6000, not nearly enough for what Jack wanted for it. I talked Phil into buying so that if it came up for sale again, this time it would be local to me and I'd have another shot at it. It looks liek that time is getting near.

Phil installed a new Centerforce dual friction clutch not long after buying it, but other than that it is unchanged from when he pruchased it from Jack.

Also of note, the block is not a correct SD block. Jack could not procure one so he used a block from a wrecked '73 Pontiac he found back then in a junkyard. The intake is not correct either, it's a '70 R.A. IV intake (Jack couldn't get a correct '73 SD intake back then either).

The block was punched .060" over and assembled by Jack using correct SD rods and TRW replacement forged pistons. The heads, carb, and exhaust manifolds are correct for a '73 SD. I cannot remember the specs on the camshaft, but it is a Pontiac grind of that period, but not the same specs as a SD-455 (not as radical as the 041 either...the car idles like a R.A. III 400, very smooth).

It's a runner, I've driven it. It feels like a solid 14 second car as it is. If one were to put slicks on it and could keep the drivetrain together, I think high to mid 13's would not be out of the question.

Those pics on the webpage were taken sometime in 1995. That paint looks pretty good for being 22 years old when the pics were taken, huh?

Keep rolling guys. You were going good. I always liked the looks of the '73 to '77 Gran Prix and LeMans. I sold my '77 Gran Prix back in February and I miss it. I do have a cancer-riddled '73 Lemans stashed out on the farm but, I really don't know why. Anyway, I enjoyed reading your posts. Nice to see some activity in here.

Good one, Rick!

Merry Christmas to you and yours, my little north of the Mason-Dixon line redneck buddy (LOL).

brian, what'd you think of the center force clutch?

summit sent me one by mistake and i threw it on the shelf[ it'll fit the gto].

i put one in the plow truck that i blew the trans out of but haven't got it finished yet to drive it.

I know two people personally that have installed the Centerforce Dual-friction clutch and they love it. Bill Boyle with his 79 T/A and Phil Griffith with his 73 G/A. I've never driven either with the Centerforce but both owners claim they work great.

Bill's worked so well that he had to alter his launch technique at the track (compared to an OEM clutch).

i got the plow truck running yesterday , the cluch was kinda grabby at first but it's getting better.

i think i'll keep the other one for the gto. i like the low pedal effort of the one in the truck.
