Thumbs up 77 Can Am 30th Anniversary / Reunion

1977 Pontiac Can Am
30th Anniversary / Reunion

THE CAN AM REUNION WILL BE HELD AT THE FOLLOWING LOCATIONS IN 2007:

July 10 – 14, 2007
Tulsa, OK
POCI Convention

August 10 - 12, 2007
Norwalk, OH
Ames Performance Tripower Pontiac Nationals

(Tulsa, OK Info) The 1977 Pontiac Can Am Reunion will be held in conjunction with the Pontiac Oakland Club International (POCI) 2007 Convention at the Crowne Plaza Tulsa Hotel in Tulsa, OK. All Can Ams are invited to attend this event! Let’s make this the largest gathering of Can Ams ever to exist in one spot since the days of Motortown! Some of the activities will include a Special Guest Speaker speaking on the history of the Can Am and special event area parking for the Can Ams during the entire POCI Convention along with other activities like drag racing, car shows, tours and many other social activities!
The Host Hotel is the Crowne Plaza Tulsa (100 East 2nd St.) with a room rate of $82.00 a night. Call 800/227-6963 (national) or 918/582-9000 (local) to make your reservations. Tell them you are with the POCI Convention and use the code P07 to insure that rate. Membership in POCI is required to attend the POCI Convention and Can Am Reunion. To join POCI go to www.poci.org and join online. You can get more info on the convention and sign up as well on that website.

(Norwalk, OH Info) The 1977 Pontiac Can Am Reunion will be held in conjunction with the Ames Performance Tripower Pontiac Nationals in Norwalk, OH. The car show portion is a Saturday and Sunday event with a gamblers race or test and tune session available for Can Ams on Friday. All the Can Ams will be parked together for that excellent photo op as well. More details about the Norwalk event will be posted later.

Don’t let this opportunity for all Can Am owners getting together marking the 30th Anniversary pass you by. All Can Ams are invited regardless of condition!!! For additional info or questions just email me. I hope to see you at both events.

Thanks,
Verne Howard

I will be there! I think there will be a good number of CanAms there. Anyone going to make a prediction?

I would agree that there will be a pretty good showing. I would guess maybe 50 at this point, I think that number would have been a bit higher if the event was held closer to the eastern side of the U.S. but hey, nothing like a road trip in the summer.

I'm gonna be there. My Can Am's body and interior might not be done (in fact, I'm thinking of holding off doing anything to it until after the reunion, as that'll eat up a good portion of my funds), but it'll make the trip mechanically. The wife is still unsure if she wants to go. If not, more room to bring back parts!

Nice photo, Verne.

At this point, I am undecided if I will make the trip, since it is over 1200 miles one way.

Allright, so I read that we indeed need to be a member of POCI in order to participate in the Can am reunion?

Is that correct?

Correct, because the reunion is going to be held on the show field with the POCI convention...and the show is for POCI members only.

Still would have rather seen it held in conjunction with the Pontiac Nationals at Norwalk...bigger draw than the POCI convention...show field on same facility as the dragstrip...more Pontiacs in one spot than at any other event in the world (more than 200 show cars and 600 race cars registered on average every year). But beggars can't be choosers...especially when the organizer is closer to Tulsa than Norwalk.

Will try to make it, but it's going to be contingent on whether or not there's going to be a POCI drag race. I can't justify travelling from Baltimore to Tulsa just for a 4 day car show.

I don't know what the schedule is, but the new dragstrip in Tulsa is very nice. Surely there will be some part of the event there. I hope.

I still plan on being there Verne! My car isn't very attractive, but it's all I got. It will be great to meet the guys that share to same fondness for this car. I'm going to bring lots of film for the many pictures to be taken, and some cash for the parts I hope to find! See ya soon! David

Yes, a 30th anniversary is a pretty special occasion for the Can am and I can see no reason why we shouldn't try and make 2,3 or 4 special Can am gatherings throughout the year and across the country so everyone has an oppurtunity to participate.I'm sure California owners aren't excited about driving 1400+ miles, each way, either.

Even though Tulsa seems very centrally located on the continent, it still is a burden for a very large contingent of owners on the East and West coasts.

It would also be nice if POCI could see there way passed the $31 forced induction of membership just to participate, not to mention the $40 registration fee to get the Can am in the show. But I'm willing to pay for any show's grounds registration fee, but to use this 30th anniversary meet to swell thier ranks aint cool.

Right now I'm still wrestling with the idea of 30-34 hours of combined traveling time with or without my family.

http://www.pontiacnationals.com/car_show.html

Here's info on the car show segment of the Pontiac Nationals at Norwalk. This is the 2006 format and prices but it never changes from year to year. $40 to enter your car in the show with a 2-day pass (Saturday and Sunday) and they feed you dinner on Saturday evening at the Ames hospitality tent. Plus you get to wander around both sides of the track to check out show cars, race cars, swap meet area, vendor's midway, and oh yeah...the drag racing.

Hello All. My decision to have the Reunion in Tulsa was NOT made lightly. I struggled between Norwalk and Tulsa and decided on Tulsa for several reasons. One, I believe Tulsa was a better venue for quest speakers especially if they have a presentation that required video equipment. My apologies to the non POCI members having this event at a POCI function. I did not think the fee to join POCI was a deal breaker. Swelling the POCI ranks was never a thought in the conception of this idea! Bringing some Can Am enthusiats together was the only game plan I had.

Default Can Am Reunion at 2 places!!!

I am pleased to announce that the 1977 Can Am reunion will now be at 2 locations in 2007. The first location will be at Tulsa,OK and the second will be at the Ames Performance Tripower Pontiac Nationals, better known as Norwalk. Let's have a fantastic turnout at each location. If you can't decide on which one to go to - go to both! Both have excellent attractions for the entire family.

Go back and read the 1st post in this thread. New info added!

Thanks,
Verne
