The dealer, Seltzer Pontiac in Chicago, that supposedly sold the SD GTO, is near where I grew up. They really specialized in luxo Pontiacs by the mid 70's. Sold tons os Grand Ville/Bonnes, GP's, Luxury LeMans. Never even saw GTO's in their used car lot.

They did cash in on the Trans Am craze, though.

The yellow GA above is a 'tribute' or 'might have been' car. There is a 1968 "Z28 Convertible" floating around as another example.

Or another term used is 'one of none'.

Fascinating old topic.
Recent research has uncovered that one 1973 LS2 A-body was produced and one WU3 Ram Air option was produced. No idea what car this went in to.

There is a story about a 73 G.A. that was Special Ordered by the Illinois State Police as a pusuit vehicle and was claimed to have been ordered with an SD455 and there is a guy in Southern Ill. who has the car and was restoring it.

There were two non F-Body SD cars built and an article is in the works about them - one is still in the hands of the original owner.

Never say never.

Chris,
The car I'm talking about was purchased by a guy who bought the car when he was 15 years old from a Police Auction back in the day and he still has the car and is in the process of restoreing it. The car has been PHS documented and Jim M. ( from PHS ) was trying to buy it as well as GM. A friend of mine who lives in Southern Ill. seen the car and it is suppose to be real.

Over the years there have been dozens of stories about "special cars". Unfortunately none have panned out. Jim M. said the one LS2 was probably an early production engineering car. He said he can only look it up with a VIN. Of course, there is no way of knowing the VIN. It could be something like 2H37X3P1000?? or 2D37X3P1000??

I think if I ran up against the guywho says he can't show it to me because he's afraid to show it for there would be a chance of it being stoln, I'd just remind him that it's still just an A-Body GM car & no matter what he thinks it's value it's still only worth about 50K if he could find the tight person. It's not a Lambo or some multi million dollor car from B&J auctions. I love my 73 GTO but I know it's not ever going to be worth so much that I couldn't shoh it ever. He's just a liar & now has gotten to the point to where he believes his own lie. Put up or shut up. Also if he's so afraid of it being stolen why would he worry if it has ins. on it.

Any updates on when it might appear in press? Sounds like it could be a stunning discovery with good reason to buy the magazine!
