Default I saw a '73 GTO 455 SD 4 speed today.....

..........at Performance World, a custom car and trade show going on in Toronto. I also post a few pictures. I did not speak to the owner but did speak with someone who knows him. Apparently he built the car to match the GTO pictured in the 1973 dealer brochure. I checked the VIN and it was originally a Y engine code car built in Pontiac Michigan. Anyway it was done very nicely, he even had put in a tilting wheel from a Grand Am with the Grand Am steering wheel, and the fender decal did read GTO 455 SD. It also had the full gauge package with tach and the engne appeared to me to be a SD version right down to the proper engine decals etc.... While I was looking at it another show attendee said to me "I never knew they even made a 73 GTO". I am also putting up pics of a couple of other rare Pontiac A bodies from 64 and 67 that were there.

Default Only two photos...

....sorry that is the extent of the photos, always tough with so many people about, but you can see that the car is very very nice. As CDN2PLS2 says it was just finished. Irman is the President of the GTO Club of Ontario and his inspiration was the brochure car along with the perfomance Car of the Year magazine article I am sure most have read. He has the article hugely enlarged and leaning up on the front bumper as you can see in the photo.

I am told he did meticulous research and is an expert on the 73's. In this regard I am pointing out he painted his scoop inserts Black, which has been a question on these forums before. Black or Body Colour?

Yeap, been saving parts to do the same thing but I always heard the demo car produced was an automatic not a manual?
Cool and wish there where more pictures to view! Maybe will see it a Norwalk, or another 08 show?

The club member I spoke with said they have plans to drive down to Norwalk, and why wouldn't they with this to show off! You will most likely get to see it up close then.

I think most Pontiac people would feel much different about the '73 GTO today if it had been available with the 455 SD and a 4 speed!
Gorgeous car.
A local guy here has a '73 Grand Am with the 455 SD decals on the fenders just like the promo pics. In fact Johhny Lightning did a die cast of his car with his name on the packaging.

BR57, since this car was built the way Pontiac should have built it back in 1973, could you tell if it had ram air?

...when you come upon a car like this it a takes a minute or two for it to actually click in your mind what is going on, especially when you have knowledge about them and things are not as you expect, so once I figured out the scenario I quickly hoofed around to have a look at the engine bay. As CND2PLS2 said no it is not Ram Air but sounds like that might be in the works. I can tell you that this car was getting a lot of attention, more than the 69, 67 and 69 Judge it was grouped with. It was amazing to hear people actually saying how cool it looks when those of us who have these usually hear how ugly they are. My son who is 18 said, Dad you have to ditch the Rally's for those "bom" wheels.

Another post on this thread suggests that the 73's might have earned greater respect if this car was built, I would agree but also wonder how history would look on them if they were released as 72's as originally planned. No one is ever going to convince me that the stripe on this car was not intended for a Judge model.

The Ram Air pan is in progress, just ran out of time.

Yes, the car will be in Norwalk.

Default Did you attend the show?

Did you make the drive into Toronto to get the photos at Performace World ?

A bit off topic but on the One of None theme and with so many Canucks on this thread, In the planning stages of a "Pontiac" Beaumont El Camino. Friend found a solid El C in Thornhill putting it up on the hoist for a better look tomorrow. It's a 65 327/300 car so he'll be looking for Beaumont grille and name plates soon. Can use real Beaumont or the Tempest GTO dash and other Pontiac interior pieces depending on what we find. Bert in Bracebridge already repops the rally wheel centres among other Beaumont trim and emblem pieces under license from GM Canada. Promises to be a big scavenger hunt much the same as Imran experienced putting the SD 455 '73 GTO together.

Default '73 GTO

That is a great looking car. I always liked the side stripes, but could not bring myself to put them on my Grand Am. The original hubcaps with the bias ply tires really look terrific. I wish I could get both of our cars side by side for some pictures.

Black or Body Colour
It's been speculated that NASA scoops were either painted body color or left black plastic depending on the whims of the various assembly plants. People are pretty sure Pontiac plant cars were left black, but as you know, never say never.
