I would love to see him get what he wants, if I had the money I would love to buy it. its great to see someone put that much effort into restoring a 73 gto!
SparksGTO66 prediction was close. The auction ended today with a high bid of $27K. I personally thought the car would fetch around $35K. It is definitely a one of a kind car.

Although I would agree the car is a beautiful specimen, there is nothing inherrently special about it, unless you consider the low production of '73 4-speed GTO's (or '73 GTO's in general). Sometimes the sum of the whole is not equal to the parts. Were it a "numbers correct" SD-455 down to every part on the engine for the model year '73, I would likely think differently. $27K is still a handsome offer for such a car. It wasn't too many years ago (2001 to be exact) that a good friend sold a '69 Verdoro Green GTO that underwent a rotisserie restoration. He had over $31K invested in the car, but because it was not numbers matching (engine and tranny came out of a '68 GP) he only got $15K for it. Volo later tried to misadvertise it as numbers matching and had it up for sale for $24,999.

I think $27k is an insult for this car, considering that Can Ams have recently sold for similar figures. The SD engine alone is worth $10k plus. Then you factor the nut and bolt restoration that was done to the car. To sum it up, the market right now is full of idiots that have absolutely little to no money to spend on hobby cars. The ones with the cash are in lowball mode, and are trying to net some nice cars for dirt cheap. BTW, this car is a factory 455 auto, not a 4 speed car..

The only Can Am that sold close to $27K that I am aware of was the 403 that sold on Barrett last year, for what...$24K? I thought that car was overpriced, given the market value (or street value) of a comparable Can Am at the time, but that's Barret-Jackson...they tend to command more money for cars most of the time.

I agree that $27K is insulting, given the level of restoration and the time/money put into it, but like I said...sometimes the sum of the whole is not equal to all of the parts.

Eric Lightsey's Can Am sold for $21k and change last month on E-Bay.

The Barrett Jackson car sold for $23,500 in 2006. Yes, it was a strong price for a Olds powered car.

The "executive ordered" car on E-bay that sold for $23k in January.

Board member WW3's awesome 4 speed Can Am sold for $29k at Carlisle last summer.

There have been others in recent memory that have sold in the $20k's.

If Blakgoat's '73 SD had a complete functional Ram Air system in place, and an original '73 SD intake manifold it would have definitely garnered more attention and bids. To me, they are the only missing pieces to the puzzle. I wish I had $40k right now, because it would be sitting in MY garage.

Yea, well...apparently the people that DO have the money to part with right now only thought it was worth $27K.

Excellent write-up by Don Keefe about Imran Chaudary's '73 455SD GTO in the latest issue (January 2010) of High Performance Pontiac magazine. Some interesting tidbits about this car from the article.

- car is an original 455 GTO.

- over $60K of NOS parts/materials used in the restoration/creation of this car.

- the transmission parts used to convert this car from auto to stick came from a '73 4door, 4-speed Grand Am parts car (another rare car).

That's the 4DR Grand Am I mentioned in the other thread.

One point incorrect in HPP article. The SD455 was canceled for the '73 mid sized cars for emissions controls and costs, not the Oil Crisis, which was when 12 months later, when the 1974's had just came out.

Anyway, the Goat in the article looks great and like it was really made in a factory. I grab any magazine that has 73-77 Colonnades featured.

BTW: I'd love to see someone put an SD455 in a '73 Grand Prix, as a '1 of none' tribute car, too!
