Default 1973 GT Showroom Poster

I took some pictures of this showroom poster from my collection, I thought some of you might find it interesting. It was hard to photograph without any glare, it is on glossy paper. It features the 1973 LeMans GT, I think this poster is fairly scarce. I took some close ups of some of the information, be sure to check out the last engine option that is listed. Tim

Thanks for sharing that...I had never seen this poster before now. It's a shame the A-body never got the SD-455...if it had it would have been the best GTO ever built, which would really frost the nuts of the GTO enthusiasts that hate the '73 body style.

Niiiice, the SD 455 was supposed to be an option on the 73 GP also. Does anyone know if the Sd455 73 Grand Am prototype is still around ?

This factory built SD455 Grand Am was destroyed by PMD in the late 70's.

This beautiful '73 4 speed built by Jack Hoffman, now owned by Brian's friend Phil Griffith of Glen Burnie, MD is one of the closest things anyone has to what should have been..It has one of the Ram Air setups made of unobtainium...

Then board member BLAKGOAT has this awesome SD455 GTO 4 speed..

I agree..that would have been fun. The best chassis of the '64-'74 Goats, the best riding, and to me the best looking. The only other older GTO's that could keep up in the Gymkhana would be the extremely rare WW5 '72 Goats, but they also have a weight advantage.

Phil still has the car, although due to health and family issues, it hasn't been out of his garage in over 2 years. Phil has just recently completed a Trans Am however...it's either a '75 or a '76, I can't remember. He did a complete resto' on it, had it painted some metallic green from a Honda paint chip, and installed a 455 with Edelbrock heads ported by Butler backed by a TH400 and 3.55 gears. He is planning on bringing the T/A to the "Pontiacs in the Park" event at VMP this year.

The Trans Am sounds cool, but the Grand Am needs to feel the love too..

neet. I'd take a '73 GTO with an SD455.

Most of us early GTO guys don't have a problem with the '73 GTO, since it was an A-body/body-on-frame construction. The '74 GTO is anova (err another) story. I personally love all the '73-77 Pontiac intermediates. Hell - I like the '78-87 RWD intermediates, too.

Phil has been rolling around the idea of selling it, to which I am eagerly awaiting. I let it get away once when Mr. Hoffman sold it, and I'm not letting that happen again...unless he wants stupid money for it.

That would be great if you could get ahold of that car, Brian.

I would give either the left or right family jewels for that beauty or the GTO Blakgoat built, and had for sale. Unfortunately, I can't afford a $40k car right now.

I don't think the car is worth that kind of coin. Maybe half of that or a little more. It's still low mileage (less than 35K original), still sports the original interior and paint, but I don't think it's a $40K car. It's nearly 40 years old and although it still looks great, it's still a 40 year old survivor. Knowing what HE paid for it helps. If it were an earlier GTO it would be a different story. I've got 3 bays, with Dad's Can Am in one, the funny car in another, and the third one open when I don't have the funny body on sawhorses, so it would go real well parked next to Dad's Can Am.

Thanks again for sharing your poster Tim. That "Right On" slogan is a vintage '70's phrase coupled with the "in-the-air clenched ,
'POWER!' fist" that I'd all but forgotten... "Right On, Right On, Right On"

Have you seen the BLAKGOAT SD 455 in person? It was a real show stopper at last years' Performance World show in Toronto.

It was amazing at a show like that so many people were stopping and saying they never even knew there was a 1973 GTO. It can sure draw a crowd.

Cool

I have not seen it in person, but if it is only half as good as the photos indicate, it is still a winner.

I have seen it in person. It is a really nice car, but I don't care for the hubcaps on it. I don't know if they are OEM Pontiac or not, but that car would look mauch better with Ralley IIs or Honeycombs. I like dog dish caps, just not those.

The story behind the car is this. The builder was the president of the GTO Association of Ontario. He set out to build a replica of the car that was awarded Performance Car of the Year in 1973. While the award went to the GTO in general he decided to build the car with the non-factory offered power train, a 4 speed with the SD 455. All other details of the car mimic the car in the magazine article. When it was shown in Toronto he had four foot high copies of each page of the magazine review on display. The car in the article sports the Standard OEM GTO moon hub caps on 15" wheels so that's how he built it.

It is a very very nice restoration and recreation.

Default '73 SD GTO Cars Story Pages

For those of you who have not seen that story from the April 1973 issue of Hi-Performance Cars, here it is. Tim
