1973-75 Lemans info - what would you like to know?
Let's say there's a bit of info you'd like to learn about your car that isn't readily available since it's not a GTO and info is hard to come by besides. For you "late" A-body guys, what stuff have you always wanted to know?
Something like how many Lemans GTs were built? Or 455 Grand Ams? Interested in what makes you guys tick. |

It seems the only juicy info is how many cars came with 4-speed.
Nothing on Lemans GTs or even 3-speeds on the floor. However, I have found some info in a visit to Detroit - what would you like to know? |

3 Speed manual
Try this one. A 74 or 75 Lemans in the yard with a 6 cylinder hard to remember but I think it has a 3 speed manual with the column shifter. How may were made?

Well, you have given me more than one year and haven't determined what body it is you're talking about, so it's hard for me to figure out if any info exists.

I have a website dedicated to GT-37s and LeMans GTs. But I must admit that there isn't a lot out there for the Colonnade cars that I have found. I do have a ton of magazine articles posted, plus factory literature and photos.

I've seen your site before, but you've gotta update the production numbers link - it doesn't work.
I hope to be back with some interesting stats within a few days. |

Jim Matteson of PHS has told me a production breakdown for 73-77 A bodies has never been done and would involve going through all the microfilm billing records and counting hundeds of thousands of records. This isnt going to happen. Rocky Rotella may have totals for some option codes, but not combinations of options (such as 2dr 455 cars).

Well, unfortunately, PHS and the GM Heritage Center are two entities that are not in cooperation. PHS has invoices and who knows what else, while GMHC has documents and who knows what else.
Here's some items I have found: 5,106 Lemans with 455-4 in 1973 2,107 in 1974 4,479 Lemans (D29, D37, F37) with floor-shifted 3-speed in 1973 2,201 in 1974 2,424 Lemans (exc. wagons) had the M20 4-speed in 1973 (subtract GTO numbers and you get numbers for "the rest") 833 in 1974 (I think this number has been published already) 2,499 had T36 NACA hood 6,224 Lemanses (D37, F37) had the GT package in 1973 6,222 had it in 1974 I also have 1974 L75 455 numbers by engine and bodystyle: D29 - 5 D35 - 54 D37 - 18 F37 - 148 G29 - 10 G37 - 64 H29 - 285 H37 - 1433 L35 - 762 L39 - 91 L45 - 1014 L57 - 315 L69 - 830 N39 - 489 N57 - 618 N69 - 460 All this info came from the GM Heritage Center. The document I am looking at looks like an Excel sheet but was probably done by a typewriter. It is dated August 23, 1974. |

Unfortunately, I don't have authorization to post it. I will see if I can crop that part but, honestly, that's not really proof because anyone can draft a document.
For what it's worth, the description says "Air Scoop Hood." I was quite surprised how high the number was myself, and I'm not into these year cars. |

That is your choice. I also am taking a risk in telling people what I've found because mistakes can be make, especially with my clumsy fingers. Some items I'm attempting to disseminate but others I won't because I can't cross-reference for accuracy. As this document is the same as the 1970-72 docs that have been circulating for the past few years, I feel with relative certainty the document with the NACA hood doesn't require any cross-referencing, but it's only as accurate as Pontiac's record-keeping and my typing.

You should see the documents that are hand-written, or typed and have a correction on them.

Big Deal! Our Pontiacs still have the “handwritten notes” on them from the assembly line. Doubtful that we will ever see the super-secret “vapor” you are referring to. So, here is an example of GM Documentation WITH handwritten notes on it. So, to be believed, post “what you are looking at”. THAT IS what I'm talking about. |
