The tach appears to be inoperative.. stuck on 2500 RPM.

The tachs on 73-up did not return to zero due to the air-core design. Of course it was quite common for them to fail so you may still be right.

I mentioned this on the A-Body forums; the emergency brake cable appears to be trapped between the driveshaft and exhaust pipes. I'll bet it makes a nice 'zinging' sound.
A nice car, but not nice enough with all the small issues it has, to be a top-dollar GTO.

There seems to be something odd about the gauges in the pic to. I think the key may be on or the car was running in the pic. But what I aslo saw was there is no temp gauge needle in the pic, but the gas gauge shows 3/4 tank & the oil presure is really low for it if it is running.... What do you think Rick??? On the A-body site you mentioned about the decals to they are very high. But the one on the trunk looks to be somewhat ok. At the angle we see the brake pedle it looks as if it is out of a different car & not a 73, because it looks really bent up like someone made it fit the car.

The needle for the temp gage is not visible, so the gauge or wiring is shorted to max it out. The tach needles in my GTO and Enforcer both go to roughly 800 RPM position when I shut them off, so I think the tach needle is stuck.

Decals can be off a little. Trust me I put them on for several years on a assembly line. I got in a argument on the line over where they go, so varies from operator.

thanks for posting that, i used to argue with people about correct placement of trans am decals and i would try to tell them that back in the 70's you could go to the dealer and see 20 trans ams on the lot and some the decals were straight some were crooked, some of the hood scoop decals followed the ange of the scoop edge others were straight with the hood, etc... i bought a few new trans ams in the 70's and early 80's and they wouldnt be the same on one side to the other. i remember seeing a black t/a that had a reguar trans am decal on the rear spoiler , header and hood scoop and then had the s.e. decals on the fenders. what do you think that guy smoked at lunch.

Hey its the same with bolts and other hardware. a lot of times we would use different bolts on things. A little different now with first pass yield.

I can certainly understand how they could have been installed incorrectly at the factory. But there were factory specs on where they should go . So, it just makes sense to me that if you're going to restore the car and install new decals, you might as well try to find the measurements and get them as close to the specs as you can.

Agree 100% on both counts. But IMO it’s no use in wasting time arguing w self proclaimed experts about anything.

Classic example was at TA Nats around 1997 where a legit ’77 Bandit owner was “informed by the show judging experts” that his - beige, camel, or crème - colored original interior was incorrect and he would be placed in a modified class. Didn’t matter that he was the original owner, had build sheet etc. He was so angry he left the hotel and went home before the show took place. Knew this BC he was staying @ same motel parked next to us. IIRC: The following year the same “experts” admitted their mistake and gave him an award in the stock un-restored class.

So, more often than not - you just can’t argue with “Self Proclaimed EXPERTS”!!! And it usually isn’t worth the waste of time. After all, who really cares about the fit & finish of UAW installed (Monday or Friday built slapped on) decals? Really?

IMHO, I'd say this car, although it looks very nice, it is overpriced. These are things we've spotted just from the pics posted in the ad.......how much more is there that we can't see?

Damn, that looks like a finished version of my 4 spd Grand Am. I'm thinking about selling it because haven't had the time to work on it. My GA currently has a GTO grill and bumper on it too.

My Grand Am is triple Black with 28 factory options like power sunroof, Honeycombs, tilt, AC, and a whole bunch of other stuff I'm not sure of. It also has cruise control installed from the dealership. Runs smoooooth. Needs paint and a small floorboard patch. I get depressed looking at it because I haven't had time to work on it. For bigger car, it was always the 73 GA or the 73 Grand Prix. It reminds me of the Batmobile. LOL

that sounds really nice. got any pics especially of the phs. where did it sell new? grand ams were really popular around here when new.
