Hi Paul,

Welcome to the PY forums, you'll find a lot of us from the Abody site here. I've been keeping up with your progress, that is going to be a gorgeous GTO! Sorry you had the paint setback.

Glad you posted your pics here so I can see them. Since I changed my home internet service last year, I can't get on the abodysite, after being on there for years. Hope to see more.

Looks good! My 73 was originally black with maroon interior, but exterior is now white from previous owner. I ended up dropping the frame out this winter, replaced a couple of floor pans, and the trunk pan. Replaced the 3spd Muncie with a TH400 so will be a little more competitive at the drag strip. Also beefed up the rear so will live a little longer behind the 461.

I am jealous at the condition of your dash!! Is that original, or was it restored? I have a call out to "Just Dashes" to get a quote to see what they can do. Meanwhile, it looks "ok" with the carpet dash pad covering.

what part of the country are you in?

Just a note to let all you A-body guys know that I've been scouting out dashes in & around my area! I know where 2 of them are right now but haven't gotten in side the cars to see what condition there in. When it gets warm I will go out & check them out to see if there worth getting or not. Just to let you know also If they have any cracks in them I usually don't bother with them. Also if they only have some small damage on them I'll scout them out & keep them in mind so if someone may want one thats not to destroyed. I 'll keep you posted.

I had Just Dashes do the 74 Lemans dashpad, but the cost was too expensive. Upwards of $2K by the time you took into account shipping costs to and from North Carolina.
On the 73, I bought a used tan dash and then dyed it using Eastwood products. Looks factory fresh. Thanks, Paul~

LEEKLM Reading your message you mentioned, you replaced the 3 speed with a automatic. Wondering do you still have the boot that goes around the shifter? If so would you consider selling it?

I prefer to keep all the original parts together, just in case... Of course it will sit in my shop for another 30 years until I get shipped off to a home, but I will still feel good knowing I have the original parts from my Pontiac, which my wife or kids probably sold 10 years earlier

THANKS UNDERSTAND . I still have mine but it is badly torn. Had one made from leather. got another question the return spring on your car , is it a long spring that goes from chassie to the z bar ? and is it avaiable ? does it cross over to different cars ? Thanks

The clutch peddel return spring for the 73 -75 3 & 4 spd. cars are special to those A-bodies, as it's about 8 inches long when not in & it goes to the fork & then to a spot on the top of the frame. Theres a oblong little hole in the frame to put the spring in. It hooks to the frame in front of the mount for the z-bar. If you look close at the top of the frame in your 73-77 a-bodie, just look down on the top of the frame by the z-bar & you'll see the hole where the spring is made to go.. It then goes in the clutch fork in a small hole it the top part of the arm of the clutch fork. To put it in you'll need a pair of plyers to get it hooked up because of where it goes it's hard to get your hand in there to pull it up through the small area you have .

The correct spring is GM 3994494 GRP 0.844. It has been discontinued for several years, and only fit the manual transmission 1973-77 A bodies. I have searched for one, and zero are out there at the moment.

They sell universal clutch return springs. One end has a hook and the other end is straight. You just cut it and bend it to the right length to make it work.

Thanks guys . I did just that, got a universal hooked it to the frame hole and to the arm and set the length. Thought their might be something out there but on a different body line. Have the original but its broken. A lot of small parts are unique to this year makes you wonder why? they changed so much.

I have 3-4 of the return springs for the 73 GTO just hanging on my peg board in my garage. I think I may have a couple still in the package to.
