Default Please educate me on the 1973 Grand Am.

I just received my Grandmother's Grand Am that she willed to me. Beautiful car and it's rust free having spend virtually it's entire time garaged in AZ. My 16 year old immediately tried to claim it as his own so I immediately tried to find something similar for his first car. Miraculously I found another 73 GA about 60 miles away. Needless to say it's in rough but drivable shape.

So...

1. For body parts I can only use the fenders and trunk lid from a GA or Lemans correct?

2. The bullet side mirrors - these are from a firebird?

3. Interior is from a Grand Prix correct?

4. I saw that Ames sells some parts for the GA but is there any one else?

I know I'll have more questions but thank you.

Re 73 G/A:
1: 73-77 fenders same, trunk lid is 73 only(G/A & Tempest)
2: Sport mirrors are A-body specific.
3: Yes for dash & seats and some trim but not door panels and power switches.
4: Any Pontiac vendor with GP catalog will have some interior pcs. Most GTO/Tempest catalogs stop at 72. Motorealm has some limited stuff available.

Try the "A-Body Resto Forum & Classifieds" @ users.boardnation.com. Not alot of traffic there but could be helpful. Their forum is 73-77 A-Body specific. Also try www.TachRev.com.

Fenders are 1973-75, and 1976-77.

Sport mirrors from a 1973-77 Grand Prix are the same. The plastic base gasket is different.

In addition to the answers given above, in case you didn't know, the Lemans was an upscale version of a Tempest the 60's. In the 70's the Lemans continued to be referred to in some GM parts books as Tempest. But it's really a Lemans by that point. So, by the 73-77 years, the name Tempest did not appear on these cars.

So there was Lemans, Lemans Sport Coupe, Luxury Lemans(73-74), and Grand Lemans(75-77). Other shared bodies are 73 GTO, 77 Can Am, and of course Grand Am. And as you know Grand Prix shared some interior and mechanical parts. The Grand Am, Grand Prix, Grand Lemans, and CanAm all use the same dash(and console when equipped), while the others use a Lemans dash.

The door mirrors are not Firebird. You'd have to get some from another GA or Lemans bodied car, 73-77. There might be some other a-body sport mirrors that fit, but to be safe that it fits the contour of the GA/Lemans door, best to stay with mirrors from them.

From your picture, it looks like you'll need a new nose, as most GA's do(if not already replaced). http://www.motorealm.com/ makes a fiberglass reproduction that's very good and the best one to get. I have one myself.

There are several Facebook pages dedicated to the 73-77 GM a-body cars, including Grand Am, so you can also find info and parts there. Here are a few I belong to:

1) 1973 - 75 & 1978 - 80 Pontiac Grand Am's
2) 73-74 GTO & 73-77 LeMans
3) 1973-77 GM A-Body Colonnade Cars
4) 73-77 GM A-body parts page.chevrolet oldsmobile buick pontiac gmc.
