Default Rare options on 69 GTO's

Just hit 500 complete PHS's in my collection (I have another 50 or so that are not very legible or incomplete) and took the chance to review option take rates, so here are the rare ones;

none out of 500 cars;
two tone with special paint color (two tone is 1.2% and special paint 3.0%, but they had a separate code for both)
economy and performance axles (only offered with 2 bbl cars, do not confuse with special order axle)
Instant aire pump

1% or less;
Custom hubcap-0.2% (surprising since it was a nice looking cap and the deluxe cap is about 16% of non judges)
self regulating alternator-0.2%
rear shoulder belt -0.4% (this option was for deluxe belts and both front and rear belts on hardtops and verts)
front shoulder belt without deluxe belts-0.4% (this was a convertible only option)
power bench seat-0.4% (benches are about 6% of all my PHS's)
Space saver spare-0.4%
Power flow vents-0.6%
Heavy duty flex fan-0.6% (this was a heavier duty version of the regular flex fan seen on non AC cars)
Safegaurd speedo-0.8% (includes low fuel light)
Arctic wipers-0.8%
HD fan clutch-1.0% (seems to be the option of adding the clutching fan seen on AC cars onto a non AC car, the one I saw in person had the AC pulley sizes as well to speed up the water pump)
Spare tire cover-1.0%

BTW, the most common option is the AM radio (86.4% AM alone and 97.4% including AM/FM and AM/FM stereo) with power steering a close second (82.2%) and third being a console (77.0%) and forth power disc brakes (69.2%). no other options cracked 50%

remember that my PHS's are over weighed in Judges, convertibles and other high performance options as well as probably less eastern cars due to rust attrition.

Very interesting figures. Out of curiosity is your collection a combination of reproduction and originals?

Interesting data. Back then, people were still very careful with their money. They wanted styling, horsepower, good brakes, and a radio

I didn't see what percentage of the 500 had A/C (regional I know).

I have a 69 that I can email you if you want

What part of the PHS are you interested in and do you want one more?

Where was the percentage for power seat backs? I can't imagine that was very common.

Seat back locks appeared in 70 and my listing is 69 only. As for regular power locks (vacuum in 69-electric in 70) they are at 2%, probably went up in 70 with the far superior electric setup.

It was about 26% that had A/C but Bear in mind that in my sampling Judges are over four times above their proper proportion, RAIV's are 10 times and even convertibles are over stated by two fold.

If you look at base engine cars only the hardtops are 45% A/C and the verts are 35%

When you break it down by transmission it is even more striking,
Auto hardtop with A/C; 67%, manual only 17%
Auto vert with A/C; 50%, manual only 11%
again all these stats are Base engine (350hp) cars only

For judges (24% are automatics)
Automatic with A/C; 26%, manual is only 5%

Last point is RAIV's:
Judges; 2 auto, 14 manual
Non judge; 6 auto, 13 manual

Cool stuff! I'm surprised by the high percentages of 4-speed-A/C cars.

I'd guess that certain plants pumped out a higher percentage of A/C cars.

Selling my 68 project to get a 69. Crazy I know.

A 69 I had in high school had A/C, power trunk release, and rear spoiler (non judge).

Thats some great info, thanks for posting.

If we can get BVZ to dig out his old computer and send me the data (the deal we had when I shipped him a working laptop for free via FED EX) we would have some more!

For Diego....and others.....
This is the before....the previous owner covered the Alpine Blue roof with a vinyl top. When I pulled off the vinyl, there was the original color.....took a bit of work to get the roof back in shape. The paint code is C D.....just like it should be. When the resto is complete, I will put steel wheels and poverty caps on it.....with Alpine Blue wheels to match the top.....and if it's OK with you guys, I'm leaving off the body side molding. Car ran before I began the resto.....there are pics of the resto on the topic "Progress"
