OK, after discovering the interesting 1108436 1B11 starter date code anomaly, I figured we can move on to the next subject:

What is the text molded on the top of your original, assembly line, distributor cap?

Is it "PATENT PENDING R Delco Remy"

or "Patent 2769047 R Delco Remy"

or something else?

I made a web page on starter numbers.

Steve allowed me to use his starter pic.

I have used it to show how to read the starter.
Plus added his SD findings at the bottom of the table.

Pontiac Starter Number List

Still a work in progress.

My poor attempt at humor.

Back to the subject at hand: can we get some examples of what script is on original distributor caps?

My '70 TA engine had the patent pending from what I remember.
On the '73 motor I have, has the patent 2769047, but I'm almost positive it's been replaced.
All my '74 caps have been replaced.

I am trying to determine (similar to what we found on the starters) just what came from the assembly line on the 73 SD455s. So far I have one survivor car with a "PATENT PENDING R" cap.

The bonehead second owner gave my car an unneeded tune up when he bought it from Enrico in 1984 for his museum. He threw out the original cap. Ugh! I have an NOS "Patent 2769047 R" cap on it now.

There is also a difference with the tin sliding door on asembly line versus NOS caps.

I already showed you my original cap - it's the "Patent Pending R" version

Yes, your car is only one that I have an official response from so far. :-)

So the current score is:

Frank and his PATENT PENDING cap: 1
Everybody else's original cap: 0

Now you need to find a 140xxx VIN car to make the VIN span nice and maybe some real early cars.
(SD's from roughly 130xxx to about 145xxx)
