Yes thanks, I'm curious about this inside rim myth date. I want to see what it looks like and if done by hand then someone might have done that not factory stamp I'm thinking

myth?

I just learned this from a guy in California;
I have seven wheels here that happen to have the exact same stampings - which I didn't previously know to look for.

HERE is the link which revealed this to me.

I bet one is outer rim.date and one is assembly date. probably value stem.is assembly date. This is similar to the 12 bolt rear end have more than 1 date too

You are seeing things which are not there.

Here is the image again:

For clarity " /\ " is what I will type to demonstrate the location of the valve stem;
This wheel has the following stamping on either side of the valve stem:

T10 /\ 8 CL

There is no "manufacturer-with-model year" "month" /\ "date" "wheel-code" pattern stamped on this wheel;
It appears as though for some period of time Norris, unlike Kelsey-Hayes or Motor-Wheel didn't have the same dating method for wheel identification.

I posted here again, not to argue with anyone, but rather in the hopes of trying to help anyone who like myself might come across a set of Norris wheels that appear to be "missing" some of the stampings that have come to be accepted as needing to be there.

it looks like a 2 on left side light stamp but it's probably my phone. I get it now. Thanks still learning this stuff. Sep. is late I the year. when did they stop assembly for 1970?

I apologize if I am confusing anyone;
I just realized I mistyped earlier;
First context:

"M" = Motor Wheel
"K" = Kelsey Hayes
"T" = Norris Industries / Norris Technologies / Norris Manufacturing

Worth noting is that "T" wheels will also generally have an "NI" in between wheel stud holes on the front face of the wheel.

Motor wheel was the only manufacturer which made Rally II wheels for Pontiac - so they will all have a three letter code to the left of the valve stems which starts with an "M" for Motor Wheel.

I only learned a couple days ago about the alternate (hand stamped) date location for Norris manufactured wheels;
I shared this at the time I learned it.

It was relayed to me that the lip stamp was a DDMMY format;
I am understanding that the "Y" is for the model year as opposed to calendar year, and that these are early 1970 model year parts;
My source is suggesting that the "8" by the valve stem indicates the month that the wheel insert was created, and the wheel was stamped September 22 (1969) for the 1970 model year as the assembly production date.
Admittedly, this does lend to some confusion.

September 1970 is too late for 1970 model year - that would be for the 1971 model year.
Model year change over was typically early August, so anything produced in September is for the following (calendar year) model year;
Sept 1969 = 1970 model year
Sept 1970 = 1971 Model year
In addition to the aforementioned 'NI' stamp in the center, there is also a "GM/70" (just like the wheel linked previously) which I am told suggests it was a part made for the 1970 model year.

I had been looking for several years before I bought the green wheels, and decided that the 'T10' (Norris-line1-1970) and lack of conventional month/day year stamping was fine with me.

I will be paying much closer attention to these here on in as I suspect that the wheel set 'Nacho has shared might indicate a date stamping change over from the older style to the newer style.

Have well over a 120 Original Muscle Era GM wheels in stock, have sold countless many more. Over the last year have sorted & boxed up near 2/3 of wheel inventory, trying to be extremely efficient in organization out in the shop.

Motor Wheel (Lansing MI)
-Nearly all of the 34 different coded 14 & 15 inch Pontiac Rally II wheels were made by Motor Wheel.
Others from MotorWheel include 14x7 & 15x7 Honeycombs. LZ coded SSI'S for '70-72 442's, MP coded Olds SSII's. There are more.
-MotorWheel also made many many different application standard steel wheels.
Just examined a nice M19 2 @ 22 dated IF. Need to find its mates, most likely in on one of my partscars.

Norris Technologys:
John put up a date code link for one of the different stamping styles on Norris Tech wheels. There is an earlier style date code for the earlier Norris wheels.
-Typ see more Norris Technolgy wheels as standard steel wheels. Need to ck some Canadian mfg Rally II's that I have boxed up. might be a surprise!

Kelsey-Hayes:
Very common as the vendor for original Chevy Rally wheels & a bunch of standard steel wheels.

Boxing up wheels this AM, examined a set of Kelsey Hayes early '69 model IF's. K18 @ 18 with no month code stamped to left of valve stem cap @ Have seen that before.All of the '69 to 79 GM usage 14x7 steel wheels, have become very tough to find when boneyarding. I'm always cking wheels when hitting the big old stock yards, but also find them in other ways. Picked up another pair of XT's last month. This last pair is the second pair I've had that were drilled for drag slick retention screws. Speaking of XT's, the real, as well as the fake '69 Camaro SS & COPO Camaro crowd have driven the price through the roof on nice original '69 usage XT's. '69 usage IF's have followed suit, but to a lesser degree.

dude - that post nails it out of the park!!

Thank you for contributing!

I would really appreciate any more you might be able to share.

My Kelsey Hays IF wheel is as follows:
K1/8* 10 /\ 18 IF
* = K1 over 8

My three Norris IF are dated as follows:
2 0 0 9 8 (x2)
2 1 8 (or maybe) 2 o 1 8 (x1) - this one has me scratching my head - there is a lot of scoring from trim rings, and I am not sure if I am seeing an irregular small "o" or if it's nothing.

I found this to be quite true, and I started looking somewhere shy of twenty years ago…
If I look real hard, I might find the receipts for the first two I bought.

The CL wheels I've seen have a GM 70 stamped on them between two of the lug nut holes.

thanks for sharing another May 1970 wheel with the "later" dating method;

@ either OPH, or 'eagles;
Are either of you able to make a guess when Norris changed from the outer rim date stamp to the valve stem date stamp?

Will look & see what Norris Tech steel wheels that I have. Only have a few, they may have tires on them.

Outer lip date codes... Off top of my head, only original wheels I have that are dated & coded on the outer lip are Olds SSI's, the LZ's, & Honeycombs (on the back lip). Most likely YA & AO coded SSI Chevelle wheels, as they were also made by MotorWheel.

Getting down to the last of loose 14" wheels. Unfortunately, also down to the last of my nice tight boxes that fit two 14x6's Until I can come up with some more nice tight boxes for 15x7's & 14x7's the remaining couple dozen are going to have stay alternated in stacks.

Here's an exception to MotorWheel manufacturing of all Rally II's.

T1 6 6 @ 28 HL

Had a feeling i had a few Norris Technology manufactured later Rally II wheels in the wheel stacks Original use was on a very late '76 or very early '77 model Ventura. Never had a Ventura of those years, but like many of our previous HN coded Rally II's, have had many HL's come in on one of our earlier Pontiac A-body partscars.

A tidbit of information: "Motor Wheel" was owned by Goodyear from the mid 60's on. That's also how the rubber faced wheels came to be, like Honeycombs, Monte Carlo wheels, etc.

dealers were known to swap equipment on lot cars prior to sale;
odds are that was swapped from another car in the lot.

‘HF’ was a late-1970 through 1971 A-body wheel;
It’s also a 14x6” wheel.
