The manifolds arrived today. They look pretty good but there are definitely some very sharp edges that need addressed. A few minutes with the die grinder and they will be really nice.
What are people using for a coating on these? These headpipes have some bends in them that I didn't see in the Pypes headpipes. I will have to compare them more closely since i have both here now. |

The cheapest and easiest coating would be the POR15 grey manifold paint. I just brush it on right out of the can. Stuff is tough as nails. I've had it on one of the cars for 2 years now daily driving it and it still looks like the day I applied it.

This is what I used and have 2 other times. I put VHT High temp primer under it and then grill it at 300 for 30 minutes.

I put mine in the oven, don't ever do that
I spent the rest of the day with windows open and the fans on trying to air out the house before my wife got home. |

There was some really sharp machining burrs on the manifolds but it didn't take long with a die grinder and a carbide burr to smooth things up. They are really nice now. Not really a big deal considering the price.
I can get some POR 15 manifold paint in the next town over tomorrow. |

I hope the grey works better than the aluminum high temp paint from POR15.
I used the aluminum twice on some SBC exhaust manifolds. I sandblasted them and washed them with the prep spray before painting and they still burnt off after just a couple drives. To be fair, I did not bake them in an oven. I cured them on the vehicle so it may not have worked so well. |

Don't forget Por 15 primer or another very high temp primer like VHT

Next question.
What are you using for gaskets since these come with none. |

I plan on using factory style metal gaskets. That's what I used on my dad's 66 about 15 years ago.

The factory style gaskets that came in my Fel Pro kit do not have a divided center ports. Do some of the stamped steel gaskets have divided center ports?

Mr. Gasket I believe has the divider in their copper gaskets.

I've used the factory gaskets on all 3 sets I've installed. A little high temp to aid in sealing doesn't hurt either.

BTW, I never did receive anything back on my question about the lack of finish work on these castings. Mine are now installed so it's all good.

Thanks!
But 'may not ship to Canada'. Meh, I'm sure they will, just not for free. Should still a good deal though. |

Functionality, mine were fine right out of the box. They just needed a bunch of sharp edges touched up. I don't like sharp edges. It is a good deal if you can get it. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk Pro |
