Default Tri-Y's

I'm delighted with the suspension pieces I bought from you, and the good information you've given me over the phone. If you ever develop these for a D-port, I'll send you the money in a second.

I know Ken and the newbies won't find a finer man to deal with. That is a GOOD looking set of headers. I had never seen that exact header before.

Question for you guys, how do they compare to hookers(4-tube) as far as performance? Better, worse or the same..The reason I ask, the local roundy/roundy guys swear they are better and make more HP and torque.. Also what do we know about merge type collectors ? Interest is Dragracing only ??? Thanks, and didn't mean to steal the post.. Dave...1033/stock(RV-455)

I would like a pair of coated round port Tri-y's for my 4-speed '71 TA. The car sits low and the Hooker Super Comps currently installed don't have enough ground clearance. They clear everything else though including the steering lock linkage. They're going to be for sale if anyone is interested.

I doubt this will help anybody, but looking at the Tri-Y pictures reminded me that Hedman once made Pontiac headers almost like that- think I bought them in '64- maybe watch for them at swap meets? The 'primary' lengths were about the same as the H-O but only 1 5/8" diameter. The Y's weren't as smooth, and I don't remember the 'secondary' pipes being that long- hard for me to picture their original form now, since I eliminated the 'secondaries' altogether and had short collectors going straight down (don't ask!).

Please-no discussion about tube size-length-etc. There are a zillion posts in the archives on this subject.
I guess the first gens are left out. Oopps, no D-ports anyways. Double bummer.

First Gens can use a very good cast Big car type header if you
really want tri-Ys.

Any plans to make a D-port version? I'm going to need a set of D-port headers for my 78 Trans Am when I overhaul the exhaust system.

.....as these Tri-Y headers were made in round-port version only.

I can't speak for Ken, but the tooling for these headers are for the round-port heads and I doubt you'll see a D-port version.

I hope I'm wrong, but I doubt it.

Bummer. I have been following every post regarding these headers since they were introduced with hopes of buying them once production was finalized. Now that I'm ready to replace my exhaust system I would really like a pair to fit my 6X heads. I hope he'll consider a D-port version.

You can always get a set of 3/8" thick flanges made w/ a D-port pattern. Then cut the pipes aways from the O-ports and reweld/shape the tubes.
Just an option....

Default Count me in

I will take a set for my 79 TA w/Edelbrocks.

I still have a rusty set of the H.O. D-port Tri Y's. I would definitely by a couple of sets of those if they ever came in production. I would swap out my old rusty ones and put one on the shelf.

As far as 'birds go, I believe there is more demand for D-ports than O-ports.
There's alot more D-port heads in those 2nd gen cars and they had a LONG run from 70-79......$$$$.

Default H/O Tri-Y headers...

Just checking one of my old H/O catalogs.

Ken sold a d-port tri-y header part number HR-98 and these fit the 70-81 birds.

After the d-ports were out he came out with the o-port tri-y headers part number HR-64, these were designed for the 64-72 GTO/Tempest and 70-81 birds.

The last price sheet i have from H/O racing dated July 94 shows both sets of headers at $349.50 a pair painted.

Well friends--we are up to 7 confirmed orders. This doesn't look good. My headder builder needs me to plunk down a contract and money for 100 sets of headers. This is why I am asking for confirmed sales of 50 sets. Some folks have expressed interest in the D-Port-HR98 version. I don't know if the fixtures still exist for the D ports but the requirement for ordering would be the same. So- D port 70-81 F-Body owners-how many want them. I'll check Mon. about the fixtures.
