I'm thinking about selling my '71 GTO clone and would like some opinions on what it might be worth. The body is just a '71 Lemans Sport with the '71 GTO front end. The car was restored in the late 90's. The paint is decent, has a few scratches here and there from normal driving. No real rust to speak of. The bucket seats and rear seat are both in good shape and are in the correct 1971 pattern. Carpet is new. Headliner is in good shape. Engine is a 1973 455 that is a great every day driver. Has 6x heads and a 2801 summit camshaft, roller rockers, RPM Edelbrock intake and a 770 street avenger Holley. I would not be afraid to drive it anywhere. The transmission is a Muncie 4 speed with correct 1971 Hurst Shifter and console. It has drum brakes all around. All of the front end has been rebuilt and is in great shape. Everything works with the exception of the heater/vent. But everything is there to make it work. The rear end is an 8.2 10 bolt with 3:23 gears. It is a real solid old car and a great everyday driver. What would be a good place to start out on this car? Not as familiar with Lemans/GTO Clone prices as I am real GTO's.

Nothing special. 350 2 barrel automatic. I converted the car over to a 4 speed. Used a m20 Muncie and all correct 71 GTO shifter, linkage, pedals and countershaft.

The most important thing you have to do before you sell the car is be honest about what it is. Don't tell anyone it's a real GTO , but what it really is. With the way cars are today & the way most people think you can get yourself in a lot of trouble as there are some out there just looking to sue someone over stuff like that. The price is going to be what ever you want it to be as long as your happy with what you get out of the car. Look in a few mag's to see what a driver quality LeMans Sport is going for & that will be where you'll probably want to be. All you have to remember is a good sale is one both you & the buyer are happy with. Some pics of the car would help all of us who will want to help you would be a big help on deciding on where the price will make you happy with the sale.

Thanks for the input. I don't really sell a whole lot but I feel like the car has got to be worth around $10-12K. It's not a true GTO, but it's a great driver that turns heads and is mechanically sound. The 455 and 4 speed does make it fun to drive. The pictures I posted in the 1st post are the only ones I have of it at the moment but I can certainly take more detailed photos.

I would guess that at $10 - 12K, there would be people interested if the body is good.

There have been several nice solid original 71 - 72 Lemans up for sale for the $10K range with mundane original drivetrains. There were at least two here locally priced in that range, one belongs to a PY member unless he sold it.

In my opinion, the endura front end adds at least $2500 to the value of a Lemans, whether original to the car or not. I think the important thing here is the quality of the sheet metal.

A couple of months ago, I was contacted by a guy looking for a 71-72 GTO hood. He bought an endura car (supposed to be a GTO, which I never saw) that was a driveable 20 footer. He had trouble either closing or opening the hood, and cracked the bondo on the leading edge. It had some other bubbles in the fenders, quarters, and trunk lid, so he decided to have it repainted and the body fixed. His body man told him his hood was too far gone to use, and he was having trouble finding a decent hood. The car was partially stripped, he got discouraged, and decided to sit on the project until he found some decent sheet metal. Now the car is sitting in primer in his garage minus hood.

So if it has good sheet metal, you're in the ballpark and might even bee a little low.

I had a '69 Lemans with a factory 3 speed and a nice 400 I put in it, buckets, console, etc all in great shape. It had a GTO hood on it and GTO emblems on the front end. Put gauges in it and fixed all of the interior ventilation and sealing issues. I advertised it for $10.5k which was a decent value for what it was. Ended up selling for slightly less due to the vinyl top concealing some sins, so I'd agree with Mike. You're in the $10-12k ballpark, maybe a little higher if the endura front end is in really good shape (whether it's original to the car or not).

Being a LeMans Sport the nose could have been ordered on the car when new. It doesn't have to be added, but it is a nice part of the car as the chrome nose on them was not very attractive Again with not knowing the condition of the car 1st hand most everyone who owns any car that they are thinking about selling has rose colored glass's on & can't see the real flaws as the buyer will. The owner will over look some of the bad items & then when a buyer says this & that is bad you'll either see the car for what it really is or go the other way take offense to the new buyer & thats not the way to sell the car if you do.

I simply could not let this slide. To each his own, but I think the '71 chrome nose was one of the cleanest, best looking A-bodies Pontiac ever made. It's perfect IMO.

Sorry to hijack the original poster's thread. It looks like a cool car and done correctly. I would personally not have GTO emblems/stickers and have it be a LeMans Sport with Endura option instead, but those three letters will probably help sell it for more money. (And to be correct as a LeMans Sport, you'd have to drill holes in those fenders for the fake gills...don't do that.)

I am still thinking about it. I've been enjoying driving it back and forth to work for the moment. I've got my eyes set on a '65 tripower 4 speed GTO that's been sitting for about 20 years. Going to have to raise some funds. This one will more than likely be the odd man out.

LMN if You decide to sell. That is my favorite body style. Depending on your price, I might drive down and see it. Nice lookin car there.
