Default Restoring OEM Center Caps

I bought and returned 3 sets of new center caps as they did not fit, too loose. I understand now the vendor is retooling. Who knows when that will be done.

I decided to restore the original OEM caps that have been on the car for 40 years. They are so tight, you can hardly get them off the rim.

The metal polish shop charged me $40. The new emblems were $64. Total $104.

I am going to find another used set.

Wise choice, and they look great! Since I have some originals, I'm going to do the same.

What kind of adhesive did you use to glue the emblems on?

When I peeled off the old emblems, it looked like simple silicone. I used Shoe Goo.

They charged 40 dollars to buff them? That's why I bought my own.
I guess that's still a major win compared to buy new. I also sourced unmarked original caps one or two at a time, shipping on each internationally isn't how you save money, but as you found out they are still better.
I got a few quotes to buff some windscreen trims and similar a few years ago, as a result I bought my own bench polisher and took my time working to no one's deadlines. Quite therapeutic.

My Snowflakes are getting redone now. I need to have the caps. Can't wait for China to retool. :-)

It's great that these center caps are stainless steel and can be polished. Really no need to even buy reproductions. Just get some used ones and have them polished then buy new emblems.

No need to buy the repros of these. The stainless will last virtually forever, and they were fairly heavy construction, so they don't dent too easily. I restored mine with a cloth diaper, wenol, and elbow grease. I was able to find a set of 4 GM lucite center emblems, and attached them with high temp RTV.
