Default Who has Hood insulation installed?

For those of you with hood insulation, could you post a few picts, or maybe some comments on what brand you purchased & fitment? Trying to decide if I want to install one & am surprised I can't find much info on them, or pictures of how well they fit.

Any thoughts?

Here's one OPGI sells. Only picture I could find so far... This is the less expensive model & non molded. Looks like Ames, parts place, etc do sell a $90-$100 version that is molded, but I am not having luck finding pictures of those.

Here's another google image. A car at Volo. this looks a little rough & not molded either. Also more incorrect round clips

Whats with the slot I keep seeing?

OP, good question, thanks for asking. Also interested in who sells the best one and how it compares to original. Also interested if you notice any decrease in noise with it installed.

Do the 68 & 69/70 hoods have the same insulation? Meaning it tucks into the same areas at the front & back of the hood & uses the same clip locations?
I know the hoods are different underneath, But am clueless about the insulation. Would appear al of the catalogs list the insulation fitment as 68-70
The second image I linked from Volo looks like its not tucked in correctly up front, or something else is incorrect.

This one "might" be a molded version? I don't see the cutout in the front (not sure what that is for)
& it looks to have a circular area for the air cleaner. Poor resolution on this picture, but you can see some details.

Two more.......

These are from Ames parts look up. first Has a relief for the fan shroud & air cleaner.
Looks like circular areas for the retainers which is interesting. I do have a handful
of original square retainers.

But to add to the confusion, Ames also shows this picture as the same part but includes the clips.
I wonder what one they are actually selling. This is a completely different pad.
The top one makes more sense to me from a visual standpoint.

If You look close in the desription online Ames wrights that the top photo is a picture of the actual part and the lower is not. The lower is for a `64.

I bet those square clips can still be found, tons of sources for push-in clips of different styles.

I see something similar on ebay too.

Cool picture!

It confirms the round flattened area for the clips. I would guess the 68 insulation was the same, but the reality is we don't really have a choice anyway as far as a repop goes. Everyone lists a 68-79 fitment. The One Ames has appears to be pretty close based on the pictures.

Now i just have to decide if I want to cover up all those hours of hard work on the backside of the hood.

Anybody have pictures of their aftermarkets installed for comparison?

I see that too. Looks very similar. I would imagine a lot of GM cars used them in the era. Such a interesting design for sure.

that confirms my suspicion that the cut out is for 69-70 at the folded brace for the plastic shroud to give it even more clearance. I believe the 68 wouldn't have a cutout right there since there wasn't a clearance issue with the metal cover

I'm still thinking if they were different originally, the repops are a one size fits all deal to cover 68 as well since it's the same size and shape.

Makes me wonder just how hard it would be to make one yourself. Obviously the material is still available, they don't have a factory making the material just for re-pop purposes. Indents are probably some combination of heat, pressure ... adhesive?

The one I bought was torn to shreds by the wind from the fan. Wish I had never put it on. A lot went into the air cleaner. I don't recall brand.

I noticed it appears Metro Molding sells the hood insulation raw material.

Here's a picture of the Ames molded pad installed. I used to own this car. I remember it being a pretty nice piece.
