In the 1980 G-body model year, you could still get the 350 C.I. sbc from the factory in the station wagons and El Caminos. Is that true?

Can you look up Grand Am's if so how many V6 G/A's got made in 1979. Also how many had sticks or auto trans. Thanks, Tracy

For the LeMans (which includes the Grand Am), 453 had 4-speeds in 1979. 207 had 3-speed manual.

For the V6, 789 had the LC6, while 65,125 had the LD5.

After Body Style is the engine code: Y= 301 2 brl
W= 301 4 brl
U = 305 2 brl
H = 305 4 brl
A = 3.8 Buick

PHS for 79 Grand Am with a 301/4brl 4 speed has the codes:
L37 for the 301
MM4 for the 4 speed

It would be really nice to know for sure how many had the 4 speed manual, 3 speed manual trans and how many had the Buick 3.8 and even the Chevy 305.

I've heard of a dozen or so 78-79 Grand Ams with the U code 305 (2bbl),
But never, ever heard of any with the 4 bbl 305.
Either it was a seldom checked option, or unavailable outside of California + high altitude states.

Wow! 231 equipped coupe is a one of one. Tracy, is that the car you had/have?
I briefly corrisponded with the owner of a '79 w/231 a decade ago on the GrandAmRegistry website. Said car resided in northern Indiana at the time.
That was the first I'd ever heard of a V6 2nd gen Grand Am.

Even more surprising is that total V6 production was 37% more than 4bbl 305.
<edit> I just noticed there are no 305 2bbls listed in that breakdown. Maybe that was a '78 only engine.

Diego, can you come up with the same breakdown for 1978?

OK, I must have missed that. Late at night, and my eyes were playing tricks on me I guess.

That means 231 production was more than triple that of 305. Remarkable.

I'd like to see the number of bench seat coupes, or full vinyl top for 1978 GA, but I suspect that would be like 'splitting hairs'.

Back in 1979, our next door neighbors, who were an elderly couple, bought a new 1979 Grand Prix SJ, two tone red. At the time, my brother had just taken delivery of his special ordered 1979 Trans Am Special Edition 400 4-speed. After a month or so, the couple next door asked if I could cut their grass while they were on vacation. When I went into their garage to get their lawn mower, I noticed their Grand Prix was a 4-speed! I was a bit stunned, because the couple were both recently retired, and this was the wife's car, who appeared very reserved and conservative (but their daughter, who was around 25-ish at the time, was smokin' hot, and the talk of the subdivision).

About a month later, the mom asked if I could look at a noise she felt was coming from under the hood (squeaking belt). I was again stunned to see a Pontiac V8 (301), and I don't recall if it was a 4-barrel or 2-barrel. Didn't think much of it at the time, but now realize how rare that was.

Diego, I take it the "350-4" number were the diesels?

I stopped at 1980.

Plus knowing the option codes would be very helpful.

And option combos are unlikely.
