Default 79 Grand Am WIW

Came across a 79 G/A on CL for 3500.00. Owner claims he is second owner and vehicle has 66k on it. I haven't looked at it yet. Just curious on price range.

About what he is asking, if the car is in decent shape.

That's what I thought. Price seemed fair. Just need to make time to look at it. I asked the owner to email pics.

Here's a link to it. If it was a bucket seat car I think I'd be on it.

Thought that was the one you were looking at, seems a reasonable price for an original car. Too bad the pics are lousy. If you do go see it, and decide to pass, I'd love to know your in person assessment.

Thumbs up

I think the guy just doesn't know how to use a digital camera.

Jim, if you check it out in person, inspect the rear frame horns closely. If there is minor rust in the quarter, it is possible for the frame to be tender in that area. Not that it couldn't be dealt with. That's just the achilles heal on these cars.

Saddle tan guts on a blue car is a bit unusual. I like the Dark blue without the Platinum lower body accent color. I'd be tempted to shoot the lower body with code 50 gold to match the interior if it were my baby.
With column shift, crank windows, Rally IVs, I'm guessing this is a Y code 301 (2bbl).
Odometer looks like 69,669 to me.
Nice unmolested car overall.

One more thing:
If you can, record the last seven of the VIN. I collect Second Gen Grand Am VINs for brevity.

To me it's a nice looking car. The insides look good & I'd drive that in a flash. But i'd swap the 301 for a 455 befroe I got it out for some real fun. Ppus being an auto already & 200R4 would be in ther to. Fast & top end. What more could you ask for. The 82-5 rear spoiler from the firebird looks great on the back of those cars. The Pontiac dealer I worked for let me do some design work when I was there in those years & I put that spoiler on about 30 % of the Grand Ams back then along with the rear spoilers on the plane jane 2M4 Fiero's. When we dressed up those cars we sold a lot of them & i got a small $ amount for helping to add to the sale . I just happened to be the dealer that I bought my 73 GTO at , I worked there twice for the total time of about 9 years.

This is true. However wasn't really planning on Racing it. Just normal commute stuff. I could always keep and eye out for a Monte Carlo or Grand National rear.

$3,500 for what appears to be a nice 35 yr old survivor seems more than reasonable.

Plus it's pretty rare and you won't see yourself coming and going.
