Default 67 Valley Pan to Clear HR Lifters?

Hey guys,

I’m looking to see if there is any way to use a 67 valley pan with HR lifters. I know there are options but I would like to keep my engine looking like a 67

Thanks

People take a hammer and punch to put small dents in the stock valley pants to use them with a roller setup

I am using a 1970 Valley pan with Lunati HR lifters. I know some 67's had the PCV in the back but I think it is really similar to a 68-72 style. Mine cleared the lifters with no modifications. One of the mid 70's valley pans wouldn't have worked without clearancing it with a hammer.

Too many variables to say for certain. Worst case scenario is you'll have to clearance it with a ball peen. The height of the HR lifters from various manufacturers varies. You'll have to do a trial fit of the pan and manually check for clearance before ever firing up the engine.

If it were me, I'd try some clay or dum-dum or strip caulk or something like that....put the pan on with no gasket, and rotate the engine around by hand, pull the pan off and have a look. Whatever you end up doing, during final assembly the gasket will give you a bit of margin.

I have removed the inside baffle to run roller cams and blocked off the PVC. It is not worth it IMO, if it hits get a aftermarket valley tray and move on. Here is one of my cars with an aftermarket valley tray with the pvc up front. If it was engine color, it would be hard to notice.

With my Comp lifters I used a pan with the PVC in the rear as the factory made it.

Thanks guys. When I pull the 326 I’ll use the stock one and modify if necessary. I definitely want to keep it stock appearing with the PCV in the rear

One concideration here is as in my example I had solid rollers which are shorter then Hydro ones , non the less the pan with the rear pcv is the easier one to dimple or bend some if you have to.

Not sure what lift you are wanting to run, but my lifter retainer setup clears all valley pans.

You can read about it here. Go to the end….

The area marked is what needs to be cleared the other is a tomahawk. The one in my picture is a 69 pan. I don’t currently have a 67 pan to compare. The tomahawks are nice but personally have never installed one that didn’t need clearance to the intake.

Thanks Stan, I’ve been following and posting there. What’s the current cost of your setup?

Ponchjoe,

I’ve been selling them for $250 with the hardware shipped in the 48, $200 if you want to source your own hardware or use the ford spider (using spider still needs valley tray modifications, my hardware setup does not)

There are specific requirements for base circle dimensions and the lifter used.

Thanks,
Stuart “Stan” Landreth
