It's been a while, did a few other projects in between but got back at it. I wanted something between the '20s "c-cab" and the F-1 knock off and settled on a '35 Chevy pick-up. The front fenders turned out to be the hardest to get right.
My grandson has been playing with the first model and it has proven to be fairly durable, one broken wheel and a front fender that had to be re-glued. I hear that he has been pretty rough with it so I'm pleased with that. I think my next one will be a copy of my first truck, an M37 military 3/4 ton. It is what I had at my disposal as Courier in Viet Nam.

when all this virus stuff passes, you know you could set up a table at a local craft fair, or even automotive swap meet, and sell these...
Keep the ones you or your grandkids like the most, and sell the rest... Frankly, I think this would be a great hobby for a retired carpenter... and how many people have hobbies that they spend money on with zero return (probably most).

You can always order the "mini-rolls" those nice people over in China are passing off as full sized rolls on Amazon. They'll fit fine.

As promised, the latest creation. This one took quite a bit longer due to the extra detail and the "canvas" top and bed cover. These M-37s were mostly Korean war era vehicles that were kept in service through Vietnam. Most of them were flat head six with a sliding gear (non-syncro) tranny . By the time I came home I could double clutch up and down with little to no grinding. I put a lot of hard miles on mine and it only left me stranded once with an ignition issue.
The lettering is for the 18th Engineer Brigade, 84th Engineer Battalion, "A" Company. The 8 is the vehicle #. I couldn't find any pics showing the truck number on the one I drove but for some reason 8 comes to mind so 8 it is. All of the other trucks I did will end up being played with by the grandkids or donated to charity auctions. This one isn't going anywhere.

Wow, really nice job and your history adds to it.
How did you fabricate the grill? It looks awesome. |

I used 11/64 steel rod and shaped, welded, ground down, welded again , repeat-repeat-repeat........... The finished brush guard took most of a day. I did a practice one with some flaws in about an hour and thought "this will be easy". You know how that goes.

That's a lot of effort.. which may explain why it turned out so good but I suspect you also have some skill. Very nice!

I figured it was time to add a Pontiac to the collection. This one is patterned off of a '28 Pontiac roadster that was on Bring A Trailer a couple of months back. The main body is yellow birch with hickory fenders and black wallnut running-boards. The radiator shell and head-light buckets are maple Bumpers are 3/16" steel rods. The top is fabric over a wooden form. The floor tile that the car is sitting on is 12x12 for comparison.

Latest one, finished it yesterday.
I thought the roadster needed a stable-mate and decided on a Victoria style sedan.

OK, these are fantastic and look forward to each new one! They all have Mojo, which is undefinable, but we know it when we see it.

OK, no pressure.
Next up is a re-do, more detailed, mid 30's pick-up (post # 24). It is 75% complete and already spoken for (charity auction for one of my wife's endeavors). I'm also kicking around a dual-cowl phaeton somewhere down the road, would love to do a Packard but the signature grill/hood detailing has me stumped. Stay tuned.
