Default looking for Dads '65 GTO

Hi all. I'm tring to find my fathers '65 GTO he bought new. I don't have the VIN, but I did come across the license plate number he had on the car. I contacted NJ DMV (where the car was titled and registered) and they don't have records that go back that far.
I do have some info on the car, unique options, when it was bought, approx month when purchased, etc. I'm asking if anyone knows of another way I can search for the VIN so I can see if the car made it to today or Purchase it if its for sale.
Thanks Jeff

Hi all,
I have a little more info about my dads car.
It was bought at Walter Kollmar Pontiac, Highstown, NJ ,dealer code 29 139.
I ran into a friend of a friend of a friend who owned it back in the early '80's (like the 5th owner) and he said it was "pretty ragged out" back then. Probably didn't survive
More than likely, i'm going to clone a '65 lemans and build it as close to his as I can.
I would still like to find out if it survived, and if it is for sale if it did.
The VIN would be nice so I could get a copy of the original options my dad ordered the car with. (can't ask him anymore....)
The Burgandy color, AM/FM, reverb, transistor ignition should stand out, I would think not too many built with those options and shipped to hightstown NJ that way.

FYI GTOAA never got back to me with any info, where else can I try?
Thanks Jeff

This car would be an early built car, built between September - December '64

Thanks Jeff
