Default Interior spray dye/paint

Is the interior paint being sold for door panels, seat backs, etc. actually a laquer paint and not a dye at all?

I don't know what kind of paint it is but it is not dye.
Dye is colored liquid that is absorbed into something like cloth and after the liquid evaporates, it leaves the colored pigment. Paint applies to the surface. I'm no chemist but it's something like that.

I used SEM Landeau Black on several soft touch parts recently that weren't being replaced and all the hard parts that I was keeping and changing color.

Although this is more of a paint and not a dye, the way that it reacts with soft surfaces I wouldn't necessarily just call it topical. The stuff is extremely flexible and it works on vinyl quite well. I didn't have any adherence issues on any of the parts I used it on.

I definitely think you would have some decent results using it on things like door panels, but I do believe it would be something that would need additional work every so often. Anything that is heavy use and high touch, I don't know if it would be terribly long lasting.

The reason I ask is, Legendary Interiors recommends Kolor Correct out of Jersey for their color match. With a conversation with Kolor Correct, I want to say they mentioned the paint isn't a dye but laquer. Plus, it's $75 for a 12 oz. spray can or $215 a pint (mixed 1:1 with your reducer for a qt.) to spray out of your own gun. If that's the case, maybe it's cheaper to source closer to home and no shipping. But, I only want to do this once. This would be GM off white.

I had excellent results using SEM's Color Coat for flexible surfaces. I highly recommend it based on color match and durability. I have had zero chipping, fading or anything else and mine has been in place for 6 or 7 years now. My entire back seat, both kick panels and console lid were sprayed. The bucket seats and door panels were new Legendary material. Perfect match.

I wouldn't assume anything. It's been a long time back but I think I paid about $75 or so for a pint can. I sprayed it straight out of the can with a touch-up gun.

I get spray bombs of SEM from my local auto part store, about $15 or so a can. If they dont have the colour I need they can get it for me in a day or two. I think I used about 3 cans to do the int. of my 'bird.

If TCP Global can't mix you the SEM color, VInyl Pro can. They were great to work with.

Yes, they mixed it based on the factory interior color code. I gave them a call and they fixed me right up. In fact, prior to calling them I called the SEM factory and they told me that they didn't have the codes going back that far but it was no problem for TCPG.
