Default 1962 GP Brake Drums 5x5?

Are these available anywhere or do I need to look for used? Anyone know the turn limit dimension? Thanks

Found them at Ames. They’re 139 each. Anyone know the max inside turn diameter?

Should be on the outside of the drum.

Look at rock auto for a 64, they fit my 62 just fine.

I think the limit is .060... It used to say it on the drum, 11.060 Max...

I wonder if 80s or 90 Buick, Olds, Chevy, Pontiac or Caddy drums would if.. Chevy pick ups are also 5x5..

I’m guessing the rock auto 64 drums will only fit the rear on my 62. Any other options for the front?

I just checked Rock auto for the 64 drums. All they list for 64 are 4.75 x 5. My 62 is 5” x 5.

You have to be careful what you order from RockAuto for our cars. I made the same mistake and accidentally purchased drums from them in the wrong size/bolt pattern for my '64 GP. I can't remember what I did, but I was able to find the correct drum size and bolt pattern by searching.

Thanks. $556. for 4 brake drums is a lot of money. I was trying to find the $40 brake drums instead of the $139 dollar ones

Ok. I found 21” x 2-1/2” 5 x 5 on rock auto for the rears at 49 each. Apparently early 64 was 5 x 5 and then it changed to 5 x 4-3/4 from mid 64 to 70. Centric 12362025. Do your own research but these should work on the rears of our 62’s. I’m buying the fronts from Ames for 139 each. Thanks all

Should say 11 x 2-1/2 not 21

The bolt pattern on full size Pontiacs was 5x5 all the way until 1976 (and even later than that on some models, I believe), so Rock Auto's application information apparently isn't correct. Hopefully the ones you get will be okay.

Stuart is correct. GPs got the smaller bolt pattern starting in 1969. My carpool partner bought a 78 Bonneville new w the 400 motor and it had the 5x5 pattern. I think wagons may have had it as well.

The front are 2 1/2 - the rear are 2. Maybe Rock Auto is a confused about the shoe size as on the bolt pattern.

That's right..I forgot the OP's car was a GP. Of course, Pontiac went to the new design in 1969 which was an extended version of the A body car chassis.

When looking for parts for a 1962-1968 GP, sometimes it's easier to search for Catalina parts instead - some vendors will confuse availability with the 1969 and later cars.

Good point, I didn't catch that when first reading it - the rear brakes are 2" wide on these cars.

Are the rear drums on a 62 and a 64 GP the same? Are both 11x2 5x5. ?

I believe the rear drums should be the same on all full size Pontiacs from 1959 through 1964.
