Disc brake question
Just a curiosity question: did all of the Colonnade cars come with front disc brakes? I've dealt with 4 over the years: 73 GTO, 75 LeMans, and the 74 Grand Am and 75 LeMans parts car I just got. All 4 have had disc brakes. I know on the X body, drums were standard at least through 1974, but on these cars, I don't know.
Thanks, Importsmasher

To the best of my knowledge, 72 was the last year of A bodies that could be had with drum brakes on the front. Every A body I've owned, and worked on 73, or later had disc brakes. Even 6 cylinder malibus had front disc brakes in the 73-77 A bodies.
X bodies switched in 1975 to standard disc brakes, when they started using the second gen F body style sub frames under them. 74 was the last year that the X body used the first gen F body subframes with rear steer, and were still available with front drum brakes. One of my customers owned a 74, 6 cyl Ventura that had drum brakes on it, it was a cheap base model, just basic transportation. |
