One night on Woodward, it was Thursday before Dreamcruise, I pull in Little Daddy's Coney in Bloomfield, there's Jim Eating next to us. He has the Tiger outside, you would see the Royal group at 15 mile set up on cruise day, Jim always took the time to talk to you.

This made me smile, Dave. Thanks for posting

I met Jim several times, and talked about Can Ams. He told me that they were his second favorite Pontiac.

Excuse me? I find that hard to believe.

Anyways, prayers for Mr. Wangers. Got to meet him and pick his brain on a few things. A gracious man who gave us a lot.

Over the years I've met Jim several times at the GTO East Coast Reginals and at the Tri-Power Nationals in Ohio. He was very gracious and would take the time to speak with you and answer any questions no matter how many times he had heard them before. He is an absolute wealth of knowledge when it comes to Pontiacs and all things automotive. I would consider him automotive royalty and one of the main people on a short list that made our hobby and love of musclecars what it is today. If it wasn't for Jim's accomplishments back in the 1960"s the entire musclecar era might have been completely different or never have gotten as far as it did. When speaking with Jim it's plain to see that he is a very intelligent man with an incredible memory and recollection for facts. I hope that in some way these qualities can help combat the effects of his illness. Lets keep Jim in our prayers.

Whats a crying shame is that all that knowledge will fade away. Its a terrible disease

My friend and I were fortunate to be able to attend the POCI Convention in Gettysburg PA 1980.
Jim was there attending and Mike and I were able to spend some time talking too him.

My friend even asked Jim if he would drive his '65 GTO convertible around the parking lot in an informal photo shoot while I took some pictures.

Jim got in the GTO and proceeded to drive around with Mike and was smiling the whole time!

That was an absolutely unforgettable experience for us and one that I will never forget.

I had lunch with Jim today. He was as gracious as ever, but his memory is getting more spotty. Obviously his short term memory is impacted the most. I also included one of the happier ones taken in 2010 at his warehouse. It was the annual Tour de Wangers event.

I forgot to say that I passed on everyone's kind greetings. Jim was overwhelmed with the positive reactions from everyone. He is quite humble about his reputation.

My mom had the same thing as Jim but due to a stroke.... no short term memory but could remember way back. I take it he can talk ok where as you had a very hard time understanding what she said.

At least he's got you guys near by to visit him once in a while and brighten his day.
