Default Cool restomod at Barrett Jackson Houston

Went to the Barrett Jackson auction and saw this beautiful Firebird restomod that I thought y’all might like to see. Here is a link although I’m not sure if it will work:

https://www.barrett-jackson.com/Even...ODE-RED-250195

While not for everyone, the car was an amazing build. Each part was better than the last. Just amazing. The car probably cost $300k to build and sold for $123k.

Here are some pics

Watched it go across the block on TV, thanks for the pictures. I'm not a fan of the hood but like many of the mods.

Looks awesome! I'm not loving the dash, but the rest is sweet

That has got to be one of the poorest Muffler Mounting examples I have ever seen in a picture.

Mufflers do resonate. That would make the whole floor board into a tuning fork.

I thought there was a reason exhaust is on hangers and kind of floats in a sense. Won't vibration transmit via noise into cockpit?

I guess it’s not meant to be driven?? That’s a really good point. The fab work was amazing.

Would it make a difference if there were insulators between the floor and the bracket? Just seems like a rookie mistake for such a high end car.

An exhaust system will also expand and contract as it heats and cools, so solidly mounting the mufflers like that is generally not a good idea. However, they did include some expansion joints in the pipes adjacent to the transmission.

The heat is gonna be a bigger problem than the sound i would think.

Looks great from the outside.... inside not so much, except for the seats. Also looks like the hood was built in two sections. Over the engine that section lifts independently from the whole hood. That I like too.

Not counting the on the heat, I can only imagine how how hot the rear floorboards will get. Not to mention how badly they'll resonate. And no, I don't see any insulators between the floor and the brackets. Hopefully they used a lot of Dynamat insulation under the carpet. Bad move on their part. Tho I do see the the rear floorboards were cut out and then raised for muffler ground clearance. That was a smart move.

I don't understand the rear seats, why have them? Stock are only for children with small legs. These literally have no leg room. For a go fast performing mod machine, wouldn't less weight be a good thing versus fluff weight?

I like it except the exhaust mounting and dash, which is positively horrid.

Unless those are rubber straps between the muffler and body, can't tell for sure...

I like the color, that's about it...

I remembered seeing this car at Norwalk once many years ago. Went back and looked through my pics and it was in 2010.

Agree that exhaust mounting is unfortunate. The flex couplings up front will help a little.... but it will still likely resonate horribly when driving. Built by a great fabricator - perhaps not such a great engineer. And maybe it was built just to be a show car and not to be driven...

That's my feeling. And now knowing it's been around for at least a decade, it's probably a bit "long in the tooth" to the owner, so to speak.

Why is it no one has crucified the B.J. television announcer "expert" for calling it a Trans Am when describing it? Weren't all shiny Pontiacs with stripes and spoilers Trans Am's?

Since I get upset when I see incorrect valve stem caps, I probably can't contribute anything to this discussion ;-)

Forgot about this car. Keith jogged my memory . Went back and looked at the pictures from Norwalk. Found some pictures from his build. Was impressed with the fit and finish after such extensive metal work. Gives hope for some of my projects.
