Many years ago I used SMS to get factory material. Twice with no issues. That said some have reported minor issues with them in the past, and today I have no idea of availability.

No clue about these people:

Got my covers from Legendary, very nice product, our host sells their product, not sure if it's quicker from the Legendary site or our host. My wait was about four months, but that was six months ago.

PUI might be quicker, but it's not as nice a product, less money though.

Everything is way slow right now.

SMS if you just want yardage, if you want covers made, yeah, it's going to be a while.

SMS is known for having accurate upholstery vinyl and cloth, but they are also known for LONG lead times. I got door panels from them that were absolutely correct, but they took forever (and this was years ago, long before the current supply and delivery problems.) I also bought some vinyl by the yard, and they were reasonably prompt on that delivery.

They recently announced they were stopping orders for door panels until further notice, so they can catch up on back orders. https://forums.maxperformanceinc.com...d.php?t=852978

Did you ask Ames about the exact part number(s) for your seat covers? Or did just you just inquire about getting an upholstery kit in general? I ordered new Legendary seat covers via Ames in August for my '66 and they shipped quickly, but the foam buns from American Cushion Industries (also ordered via Ames) took about a month. If you can get your hands on some covers from Legendary, I highly recommend them. I am highly impressed by their products, not just seat covers.

Fred, when I was ordering seat covers for my 72, I asked our sponsor (who sold Legendary) and they said 8 weeks (this was last year). I then called Legendary and they said 4 weeks. Got em in about that time. So, going to the source can be quicker.

As a follow-up on SMS door panel deliveries, I had been told (multiple times) that my door panels ordered in Jan 2021 would be delivered in September. I contacted them in late September and was told by a new product manager that the previous manager had been giving customers delivery times with no basis in fact.
He said that they had not finished all door panel orders from 2019 (!) but hoped to be caught up with all orders in six months. I think that is probably optimistic....

Legendary stuff is better, but they do not stand too firmly behind their stuff.

I got two Arctic White leather seat covers for my 98 Trans Am from Richmond Auto Upholstery in Houston, TX in just 30 days. Now I can't get anyone to install them around Prescott AZ as they're all booked till 2022. Frustrating.

5 months was where we were at on large order through Legendary that was placed this last Jan on Legendary's annual sale. Package trays, carpet, headliners & some small pieces came in fairly quickly (within first month to 2 1/2 months). Then the ACI front seat molded foams, finally their reproduction seat covers (one set was red comfortweave). Knew before I placed that order that it was going to take a good while to get it all in. I fully expect to see longer wait times when I again place a large order late this year, unfortunately supply channels for many base materials are FUBAR.

looking for black/ bucket comfort weave for '71 GTO
F Rock, will throw this out... IF the current '71 comfort weave inserts in your seats are in really nice condition (typically hold up better in black than any other color), depending on local craftsman's capabilities, the outer bolsters could be replaced on your front buckets, if that's the major issue. In the mid 90's, i had a really nice black 71 comfort weave interior that I pulled out of one '71 project car & installed in another '71 GTO . In the donor vehicle, a previous owner had hauled a cardboard box with a partial gal of white paint in the rear seat. That paint splashed & leaked onto the lower back seat. Try as i could, the white paint would not come out. As the upper cushion was really nice condition, i ended up sourcing an original lwr rear seat cushion from a boneyard in KS. The original comfortweave in '70 & 71 GTO's is real comfortweave, not one of the simulated comfort weaves. Numerous high end restorations have been completed combining NOS correct grain vinyl with nice used original comfortweave. May be something to persue.

I'm okay with slow, I just need to not be told repeatedly that my parts are shipping out later in the week and then never receive them for 6+ months and counting... I know stuff is crazy right now with the supply chain, but I need straight answers so I can plan and adapt.
