Default Original paint?

Can I determine if my paint is original vs. re-painted with the same color?

The PHS and VIN plate say a solar red, inside doors, trunk, etc. are solar red, and it matches my solar red touch up perfectly, but
how can I determine if it was re- sprayed?

Thanks

take it to someone that really knows old paint and ask.
If its been resprayed in lacquer it may be hard to tell.
High end body shops and insurance companies have a meter that can tell thickness of paint.
I Have a solar red 68 myself and to be honest could think of a lot of red colors that look better.
Does you paint rub off if you wax real hard?(leave red on the polishing cloth?)

Oh yeah. Lots of red comes off on the polish cloth. But it still takes a nice shine.
The quality of the paint job is not up to modern standards. Would you say it was normal for 60's factory paint to have a little "alligator" like it wasn't thoroughly rubbed out?

an old lacquer paint job will be pretty slick unless its getting cracks and checking.
Im guessing youve got an enamel repaint but we can rule out clearcoat, with the red rag trick.

You can usually always tell by checking all the jambs for either signs of overspray - or tapes lines from masking them along the edges.

If the edges leading into the door jambs, trunk jamb and hood jambs do not have dry spray/ and you can't find over spray on any rubber, glass, door handle gaskets etc, and it is checked like you say then it is probably the original Lacquer. Check for grind marks file marks in the original leaded seams on the pillars. Also light sprayed areas low or runs on the rockers or below the rear bumper.
