Default Bird Glass

Lets revisit this, havent talked about it for a while and maybe some one has something to add.
68 only
lets hear from owners
Ive had clear and tinted
base OHC-6 cars
Sprints loaded with go fast goodies
Loaded 400 cars
convertibles
hardtops
with a/c
without a/c
really no rhyme or reason

I suspect the supplier did a pilot program and it fell on its face.

tell me month on glass
build date of your car
a few details on your car to make it "worthy" of having the factory equip it this way.
glass with curved or straight bottom

There is a long thread on this topic on the FGF site. Very informational. The conclusion was that it was a pilot run as chevy did a similar run with an "Astro Ventilation" script. They did clear and tinted convertible and hardtop and there is no real pattern to which cars got it. They did a survey and were able to corral the date runs for the bird glass as late fall '67, glass date codes in October and November IIRC. With the survey they also corralled car build dates and seemed to assume it was all gone by March or so. However, my '68 convertible has it, tinted and it is an 07E car IIRC, very late. All of my glass date codes line up and are in the late fall '67 bird glass run dates. It just must have been a set that was laying around at Lordstown near the end of the production year so they threw it on my car. I am certain it is original to my car as it was a one-family owned 35k original mile car when I bought it in 1996. There are a few other late dated cars in the survey with bird glass but it seems the members there want to assume those cars didn't come with it and it was added later so their date ranges exist without exception. However, we all know how these cars were really built.

Pat,I was one of the contributors to those threads in FGF,and tried to correct some of the misinformation.
Problem is once people read something on the internet they consider it gospel.
Your car is the latest build of any Ive heard of bird glass or not.
Others please tell us about your bird glass .

I don't have the build date of the car but.....I pulled mine out of a 68 in a junkyard and paid 100 bucks for both. I had never seen it before and thought that they were cool. My boss' 68 has them as well. However I installed them in my 69.

I've got Bird Glass on a December '67 built RA I. I haven't got the car handy to check the date codes on the glass, but the glass is non-tinted. I've never had the door panels off, so I don't know the contour of the bottoms. Car has deluxe interior. I always wondered if the Bird Glass was installed on early deluxe interior cars.

12B build date, Soft Ray Bird glass with a date code of M278 if I am reading it right, but the 1/4 glass looks like M276. Does that sound right?

I have to look at the glass date codes again but here is some info on mine:

400HO convertible
Late built car, 07E IIRC
tinted all the way around
straight bottom glass
standard black interior
options: ps, pb, p/top, pw, p/seat, posi, auto, console, clock, non-A/C.

OK, I double checked my date codes. First of all, the date on my cowl tag is 07C rather than the 07E I mentioned above. My glass is PPG with date codes of October 1967.

where on the glass is the date code for the bird glass? Not sure if the glass is curved at the bottom, its been a while since the panels were off.

My car is a 12C with bird glass.

I looked up the date codes on my glass last year and submitted it on that bird glass information form on FGF, but, I haven't seen where anyone has posted the data points or results. I looked at the glass again tonight but could only get to my rear quarter glass. It had 27-107 on it (not sure if the 27 is the day or something else). My side glass is rolled down half way and the car is away for the winter, battery out, etc. Since I have power windows, I can't get to those codes right now. However, from last year, I do remember all four date codes being consistent.
