Looks like an interesting project with all the expensive parts (carb, distributor, shaker) intact. Already at $20,000 and reserve is off. Hopefully those are real bids. A bit rusty though it does has the orignal front fenders.
Great project...just add money. :-) |

Wow... the bidding seems on the high side to me...?
I did get a chuckle out of his comment in the Q&A down at the bottom... he kept a '72 455 HO Formula project over the '72 T/A project. Must have been a tough call!

I looked at this '72 TA about 5 years ago before buying a '71 TA that didn't have rust issues. Larry was asking $20K back then. It was sitting in the same location. I e-mailed Larry about the ebay auction and he appeared surprised about the strong bids too. We shall see if it's real money.

So what's a nice 72 TA bringing these days? Even with all of the hard to find parts there it still needs some big $$$.

So have I completely ruined the market on 72 T/As by publicizing my restoration? Now everybody thinks they can easily do one at home in 7 years! :-)
Geez, I paid 18K for mine back in 2004. That's a nice, complete car but its going to take a whole lot of money to redo it. You could easily have 80K just in the restoration costs in order to do it right. With the trunk pan, rear window and lower quarter rust visible in the photos, I would imagine there has to be major lower windshield rust hiding under that glass. Anyone seen the floors? (yeah, I'm jealous...time for another project) |

I think it has the original CA license plate frame that says "Long Beach"

One of my 71's is from their dealership in Portland & is optioned almost exactly the same. (no A/C or H/C's)

If that's real, then someone would pay $75,000 for a restored car. Not in todays market.

and to think it still has the factory original 12 bolt rear end along with the chrome valve covers?????
Looks pretty original. With a bucket of benjamins you could have a nice piece there!

The tires look like they came from an 80's 4x4 S-10 Blazer.

I'm very surprised at the bidding on that car too. I've dealt with some crazy people when selling cars and I hope for this guys sake he isn't.

Was there a breakdown released regarding how many 4 speed '72 TA's got AC?
My brother's ’72 TA has AC and I was curious. His car is in similar shape.

IF the T/As were statistically the same as the entire line of Firebirds and there were 458 4 spds then that would calculate to about 305 had A/C. (66.6% or 2/3rds). Notice the big IF...
