I had problems with the Golden Legion brand rear bumpers for my '67 Bird being bent. I ended up buying one made by Keystone Automotive IND (Bought through Summit). They buy the raw bumper from overseas, fix any imperfections, triple chrome plate them, and offer a lifetime warranty.
I don't know if they sell bumpers for GTO's, but I am very happy with the quality. iirc, it cost about $100 more than the Golden Legion brand, but worth every penny.

I will be ordering one as well. But not until I have my complete parts list put together. maybe a month out yet.

I was also planning on the PY/Ames show quality bumper. Doesn't look like there is a lot of options otherwise.

I had heard on this forum that the 68 repops fit pretty nice compared to other years?
I have an original that could be re-chromed but not sure how much better it would look at nearly twice the investment. Also, the backside is pretty rusty, so I would imagine all those pits & rough surfaces remain after re-chrome. Thats still an option I'm not dismissing though.

Speargun, there is also a member with a new one for sale in the classifieds section. I believe its a dynacorn. I have no clue the quality of that brand however. I saw it had extra holes near the license plate bracket, No idea why that would be. But, if your looking for something with triple plate chrome, you probably don't want to risk buying something where you have no recourse if it has any flaws either.

I've used several of the PY/Ames ones, always very happy with them.

Did you get the "show" chrome, or the standard? I wonder if both are the same mfg.

On a related Note, anybody ever take any pictures of what the backside of these bumpers look like? I realize they are not chromed, but do they have some copper/nickel protection on them? Spent a lot of time getting rid of rust pit marks on the underbody, frame & bumper brackets, so im curious what the backsides looks like.

This is the Ames/PY 'Show Chrome' grade. I'm pleased with it. It's been in place for 5 years or so and looks just like it did out of the box.
68ragtop, I could not see any protection on the inside, so I coated mine with some clear enamel.

Was it bare steel, or did it have that copperish gold color to it. Not sure what that actually is, I think its something to do with the chemicals & how the electricity flows through it? Did you by chance take a picture of the backside? I guess it will be whatever it will be, just curious I guess.

I think I may have a photo of it somewhere. I looked before posting but didn't find it here.. As I recall, it had a slightly yellowish tinge to it but it's been 5 years and I couldn't swear to it. I'll look through my home computer if I can remember and post a photo if I can find it.
I actually still have my original. It has a small tweak on the driver's side but the backside, surprisingly, only has a very small amount of rust.

Tamraz is a parts vendor. Not sure where he gets them, or if he has them done himself and then resales.

68ragtop, I did not have a photo showing the backside but for the sake of the thread, I did find and am posting a pretty good photo of the Ames/PY 'Show Chrome' repop bumper.

Nice Pict! Asking for backside pictures is kinda odd I know & who the heck would normally take them.

Have to pick up another part at the chrome shop next week, might look at some of his restoration bumpers to see what they look like on the backside. got to believe a restored original looks pretty touch on the backside. I do have an original but rough looking 68 Bumper I could have re-chromed, but I am looking at $700-$800 So about twice the price. No dents or bends, just rusty & peeling chrome.

I had heard the re-pops fit so well, re-chroming an original is not all that big of a deal, unless its for originality purposes & exposing the original date code on them.

my PY repop backside was smooth & couldn't get primer/paint to stick: peeled in sheets a few years later. So vacuumed it off and left it bare.

maybe a thinned tar would stick.

There's a product out there that several auto body guys have used called HoK AP-01, supposedly will get clear to stick to even clean aluminum wheels. I have not tried it yet, but the backside of the bumper, fuel tank and some other things I am afraid to clear over for that very reason, No adhesion
