Installed SSBC front power disc brake conversion kit on my 66 Lemans a year ago. Running a 428 with Ram Air IV cam, max. vacuum am getting is 12".
Brakes stop fair at low speeds, but if hard braking (panick stop) not real good. Have gone over and bled numerous times, added vacuum tank and changed master cyl with minimal results. SSBC advised I needed 18" vac. to work with thier booster and said I have too much cam? Don't understand how the Ram Air IV Cam would be a problem since many factory power brake Goats with this cam were produced. Anyone have and suggustions, don't want to add a pump if I don't have to. |

Same cam and vacumm problem here. I added a Comp Cams vacuum cannister ($50), which helps a lot. Beyond that you will have to add a vacumm pump from pick-a-part or Master Power Brakes.

Another alternative is to swap out to a '78-'87 A/G-Body dual diaphragm booster. They work great with as little as 10 inches of vacuum.

Did't use Rhodes lifters due to the noise problems with them. I did use anti-pump ups recommended and supplied by Melling when I bought the cam. |

You could also use an hydraulic brake booster, runs off your PS (must be in good shape), it will improve your braking and get rid off your vacuum problems. Alot of the pro-touring people use them. Down side is of course price. See www.hydroboost.com
