My buddy Bob with the Can Am sent me the thread. I guess he knows I never post pictures of the car, I'm not very technical when it comes to computors. Interesting topic though.

Hey 75ga. Didn't realize that was your car. Enjoyed seeing it and reading about the details. Steve F., alias 75lemanssc at the abodysite.

I had a '73 G/A at the same time but it needed more work and I didn't have extra parking for it so I sold it. It was ascot silver, black full vinyl top, power sunroof, 455, posi, power windows, air and had a black vinyl interior. This car started my love affair for factory sunroofs.

Speaking of sunroofs, mine is gonna need the rubber seal that is attached around the perimeter of the panel when I get to that point. I know it's not likely, but did you ever have to replace that rubber or any leads on where to get something that will work?

So far mine are really good and should be good for a couple of years. I had a '79 G/A with the sunroof and bought nos seals from GM. I scrapped the car and put the seals up for sale. I guy contacted me saying he had nos seals for the earlier cars and would I be interested in trading, thats how I got my nos set. Keep in mind that these sunroofs are all the same for "A" and "G" body GM cars from '73-'77. When I replaced the sunroof panel because it rusted so bad from an after market vinyl top it came from a '75 Monte Carlo. Have you run the part numbers through Partsvoice? Also check Evan Scotts Pontiac Parts, he has a great deal of A-Body nos parts. I got a pair of nos grills from him.

I did run the numbers through GM and then PartsVoice last year and no luck on the rubber that goes around the perimeter of the panel. I did find one of the other strips of rubber though. I should probably check again, since I suppose more items can show up all the time. Thanks alot for your thoughts about it.

Steve,
Try posting at the other site's that deal with A-Bodies. IE Grand AM Registry. Maybe there are other Chevelle and Monte Carlo site's as well. The nos seal I got was originally bought for a '76 G/P. I checked a couple of part's site's I deal with but haven't found anything. I'll keep my eye's and ear's open and let you know if I find something. |

The parts you need are still available from ASC. I have the number in a early email. I'll get it for you later.

Hey Steve F, did you put the Indesign nose on yourself? I'm debating about putting mine on myself. did you have to drill out any holes either on the nose or header support/fender to align it correctly? Pete

Hi Pete. I haven't done it yet. I just sat the InDesign nose on the front of the car to see how it looks. I will be doing it myself, but don't know when I'll get to it.

Are you saying that ASC still makes sunroof seals for these cars? If so, could you share the part number and how to order it? I've got a non-original seal on mine and it isn't pretty. The previous owner looked long and hard for the original seals and came up empty.

Well, the original factory rubber seals are practically non-existent. The ASC seals available do not resemble the original factory sunroof rubber seals. Here is a picture of what they have. This is what they say has been used with ASC sunroofs for many years. It's a blue tube attached to an aluminum strip and covered with black felt. These are samples they sent me. There are 3 diameters, 1/8", 3/16" and 1/4". By trial fitting the samples to the gaps between my sunroof opening and panel, I ordered a length of the 3/16 and 1/4. I'll be using the 3/16 along the sides and front of the sunroof opening. The wider 1/4" will be attached to the rear of the panel and will fill the gap better along the rear. Your gaps may be different. It won't be as good as the factory rubber seals, but is better than nothing. Kelley's Sunroof Parts in Nevada is the place, phone: toll free 1/888-298-8140.
