Default Parts Identification

Hello,
Putting my 1970 GP back together - need help identifying the 2 parts in photos.
(My wife threw away my assembly guide) The metal part is 11" long and the splash shield is about 8" x 7".

I also bought a new rear license plate pocket and am trying to figure out what the recessed hole in lower left bolts to.

Thanks.

Default parts identification

The metal bracket that you show looks like what the Ames catalog shows as a "back lock dust shield, transmission mounted w/console for the M38/M40"
My 69 Gp is in storage so I can't check, but I remember seeing this part. I originally thought it had something to do with the spare tire mount, but it doesn't. The other part looks like a splash shield and I'm guessing possibly rear body panel to bumper shield?
My license plate pocket doesn't show anything connected to the indent hole. Is it possible it's for an air shock valve?
Hope this helps, If I get a chance I'll try to look at my GP for verification
Dan

Thanks Dan - will see if I can get at location removing the console insert - I hope I can do this without having to remove console. Will let you know what I find out. As far as the license pocket I think I'll make a brace to go to this hole - there is really not much reinforcement of the pocket.

The metal splash shield is for the shift linkage, it attaches on the driver's side with the same bolts that hold the converter cover in place... see illustration.

The splash guard is called an "insulator" in the parts catalog... it covers the hole in the rear inner upper front fender near the hood hinge where you would otherwise see the cowl area through the hole without it. There are small holes in the fender for those clips and it attaches from underneath with the clips protruding upward through the holes.

The hole in the license pocket is for an air shock valve if ever needed. No reinforcement is needed there, the license plate bracket will hold the pocket firmly in place against the bumper.

Hope that helps!

Grant

Got the splash shield installed. Will put insulator on next time I'm under the hood. Took the car out on a test drive Sunday, it's been 2 and a half years since I had the car totally apart. The only problem that occurred was a speedometer malfunctioning. Will put a few hundred miles on it to make sure all is well and paint it once the weather warms up. Thanks Dan & Grant for your help.
