Tom,
Add me to the list of those wanting to buy an aluminum '66 tripower intake.
Has anyone mentioned modifying the design to eliminate the exhaust crossover compatibility with later model (i.e. 6X) heads?

Well, are they available yet? I got some money if you got an intake. Anything new on this intake?

The only modifications to this intake will be extra material along the exhaust riser area to allow for use on later model heads such as the 6x. As for how much cfm this intake will flow I can't answer that. I have never seen a report on how much the original intakes flowed. Anybody have that info? You can port match this intake to your heads for increased flow and do a little runner work like cleaning up under the carbs. The research and development money needed to produce a high flow intake is way beyond my resources, you are talking mega bucks here for mockups. If someone wants to buy an intake and do the modifications and let me know the necessary changes I would consider making them if the cost wasn't to high. Don't forget, to high of a flow rate on a stock motor with a mild cam may do more harm than good. One thing though, these will weigh just under 13 1/2 lbs. and the weight savings is equal to 3 1/2 horsepower. Every little bit counts. I am told to expect the first intake at the end of feb. Let's hope this happens. Also in the works after the intake comes out will be end carbs. I know these are sorely needed. Performance years and myself are the only ones to carry this intake. Their will be a little blurb about this in an upcoming Smoke Signals.

I'll take whatever i can get and take it from there. I really appreciate the fact that you are making this intake. You will sell many of them.

I see in the march 03 issue of car craft page #77 barry grants new tri-power. It has an all new aluminum raised runner dual-plane manifold. The carbs are the holley type demon 2bbl and are rated at 350 cfm each. The only problem is its for the small block chevys, oh well.

Robert, I posted about them in the Lobby. Is it just the carbs or is it the manifold too? I read it early this morning and was a bit groggy at the time. If it's just the carbs couldn't they work on the Pontiac?

It's a compleat package, carbs, new intake, progressive linkage and fuel lines. The manifold has a new patented water-neck reservoir to stop any seepage. I'm sure you could buy just the Demon 2bbl carbs if thats what you want. Tom V posted that he mounts these carbs to the stock intake. I e-mailed grants today and i was told that they are still in the design & testing stages with the 2bbl carbs and 3x2 intake. They should be available later this year.

To clarify, I use Offenhauser Holley to Rochester
solid aluminum carb adaptors to go from the 500
cfm Holley 2 bbls to the Rochester bolt pattern on the Pontiac manifold. The throttle bore size is the same. The castings I used were from the 440 six pack carbs so there was no airhorn to cut-off. There is clearance for the carbs as the Pontiac carb spacing is wider than the 440 six pack carb spacing. Tom V.

You can put me on the list for one intake. I like the 13& 1/2 pounds deal.

I emailed Barry Grant's company the other day, asking them if they will have a carb that can be used as a replacement for Rochester tripower carbs, and the response I received today was as follows:

We're still in the developement stages with our 2bl carburetors & tri power setups. We should start releasing them later on this year. Once we get closer to release we'll have more specific information available. We can tell you at this time we will not be offering anything in a 2GC bolt pattern.

Thank you
Tech

Maybe there are, or will be adaptors available.

The mfg is saying several samples of the Intake will be available in about 30-45 days. Any volunteers that can immediately test for and fit and better yet.....check flow and performance?

Chris,
My freshly built 462 is ready for first startup. I'm using ported 6X heads and an original '66 tripower setup rejetted to accomodate the bigger motor.
I'd be happy to test fit and run one of the new intakes on it and give you immediate feedback. Also, my original 389 with "093" heads is out and sitting on a stand in the garage so I could test fit the intake for you on that motor too. Let me know if you think this would help you.

About all I could do is test fit it on my 400w/670 heads. It's on a engine stand.
If I had a 66 centercarb I would gladly compare it to my 65 unit on my fresh 464. Oh well. Who has the equiptment to flow it??? How about it Tom V.?

So, who do I talk to about getting one of these manifolds? I want to replace the cast iron one in my '65 GTO.

LLucas, note these are 66 manifold replacements. The 65 carb. has smaller center carb throttle plates and will not work. This is assuming you have a 65 tripower setup. If you have a 66 setup on your 65, disregard this.

Your wish has been granted. I e-mailed Chris and
agreed to do a trial fit on the manifold and to supply flow date for the cast iron head plus the
manifold and the Edelbrock head ans the manifold.

As soon as he gets me a representative part, I will start the work. Tom V.
