Default HELP! I have a car with no VIN tag

I recently purchased a beautiful 1973 Lemans with only 20k original miles on it. The previous owner had purchased the car from a salvage yard with out a title and had swapped VIN tags with another 73. That person got popped by the police and they confiscated the tags. Now I understand that some states such as Pennsylvania will issue a new VIN tag in a situation where the vehicle is recovered (after theft) missing its VIN tag.
Ok my question is this:
Is there any location on the body or the frame where I can find the complete VIN. I tried the engine, but I only get 9 digits.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

there may be a hidden vin under the heater box. this is kinda spotty as i've seen several without this location stamped.

the vin will be stamped on the top of one of the rear frame rails unless the car has had an sr frame installed under it.

to my knowlege these are the only 2 alternative locations that the vin was stamped.

Firewall just under the bottom of the heater box as Mike said. The rear frame rail VIN, I think, is on the rear cross brace towards the driver's side. I've heard there may also be a VIN stamped in the metal under the dash pad somehwere, but I'm not sure about that.
If you know the model of car and it has the original engine you should be able to reconstruct the VIN off the partial # on the engine.
